      1) No rules like any other cms flexible templating ... use any html CSS or HTML5
      2) Twist and turn anything you can ... you can actually use different snippets to achive 1 thing.
      3) Always get surprised with solutions.... jaw dropping solutions on forums, tutorials etc
      4) It gets better n better with each n ever release.
      5) You can actually call any snippet chunk tv anywhere u like. I guess No CMS does that.

In love with MODx. Im not going back to Joomla anymore ..... or any other CMS ..... :-D

        1. Seo friendly (thanks to tv)
        2. Easy templating. Even child can make a template
        3. Contexts and property sets (handy for multidomain sites)
        4. Customize everything. (run custom php scripts in manager, customize manager, forms, manager folder)
        5. Powerful startup snippets from the team. (getResources, Wayfinder, etc)

The main reason why develipers should use MODx is flexibility. Flexibility = Saving money in future.
7\10 sites I usually port from another cms because of SEO nightmare. (joomla is truly hell, even with mods)

PS. Thank you Ryan for letting me to contribute. =))

PS2. There is a lot more than five, but let other developers to share their top five. =) [ed. note: Paprikas last edited this post 14 years, 10 months ago.]

          1. Fast deployment - I can build a static site with a custom theme faster than Wordpress.
          2. Design freedom - I can slice a PSD or migrate markup from any designer without restrictions.
          3. Application framework - MODX is more that just a CMS, it's a CMF for serious development.
          4. Powerful tools - Everything from chunks, TVs and snippets to xPDO are in my toolbelt.
          5. Ease of use for clients that actually maintain their content.

Repeating kevinraz "I also want to mention that a huge part of switching to MODX was the fact that the core team is so involved in the community, making themselves available to answer questions and continually improving MODX."

            1. Starting with a blank slate template. Even "vanilla" WordPress templates are cluttered with unnecessary files and code. This was what first drew me to MODX.
            2. Community. Forums, Twitter, Bob's Book, etc. When I have a question it gets answered thoughtfully and politely. It makes you want to contribute back.
            3. Template Variables. I just demoed to a client how quickly I can add an image field to a template and they were blown away.
            4. Excellent integration of TinyMCE for WYSIWYG editor.
            5. Flexibility to build manager experience for client that is easy to use for them and keeps them out of trouble for me.

              • Flexibility - I know I’ll be able to say ‘yes’ to the client
              • Open source package - better than being locked in to a niche CMS from a boutique design agency developed by one man and his Chiwawa
              • Less plugins - quicker to build what the client wants rather than wade through the current 1202 Wordpress plugins for the sidebar
              • Template variables - with this tool in your back pocket you can get up to all sorts of tricks
              • MODX support - you actually get some so I don’t feel alone in this world

                • Freedom - Complete control of your rendered content -- from beginning to end.

                • "Hackable" - Ability to customize, extend, or override the back-end manager without jeopardizing your upgrade path. (synonymous with freedom)

                • System Events - Powerful, ordered event hooks make for some awesome code combinations -- front-end & back-end included (synonymous with "hackable")

                • Templates - Extensible, easy-to-use templating system with good code separation

                • Permissions / API - Content-level access permissions, including back-end restrictions, make for a power application stack for any purpose...throw in the complete API for some sugar on top! (synonymous with "cookies")

                    1. Empowering to seperate content from presentation from logic. Has made me a better dev.
                    2. A lot of addons can be used in many, many, many different ways.
                    3. Continued development which with 2.2 is reaching yet another high point and doesn't seem to end soon.
                    4. TVs allow quick and easy to maintain custom data. Throw in Form Customization and you've got a client-friendly solution for custom data.
                    5. The amazing community (which *includes* the MODX LLC folks)
