    Hello Kathread,

You can uninstall TinyMCE with the package manager and reinstall it without much trouble. It's a backend resource so if something goes wrong, the website will be unaffected.

I did look up your provider and no issues stand out, however this isn't to say they are problem free. I would check the error log to see what is noted if anything, 500 errors should be logged with further information in cpanel.

What I was suggesting was going to System Package Management first and clicking on the "Uninstall" button next to TinyMCE and selecting the option to remove all versions. Then right-click on the TinyMCE package and select "Remove Package".

Then follow the instructions to download and install TinyMCE that you referred to.

I should ask, first, whether you messed with the security permissions system before things went bad. It's possible that you put a TV in an element group that's protected and you're having a permission problem.

It's not an error that I've heard of before so it's difficult to diagnose.

I've helped debugging this issue on another host before, and it was related to the TinyMCE plugin folders / files having the wrong permissions. I think in that case they were 777 while the host did not allow that, but required them to be 755 instead. As you say you recently changed hosts, that doesn't seem to be too unlikely to be causing an issue now.

Open up your favorite FTP client and browse to assets/components/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins.

The link plugin is modxlink. Make sure the folder has the right permissions (no more than 755) as well as the different files in that folder (most notably the link.htm and link.php files, but also the search.php for the pagetitle search and the js file).

Could be worth checking out other plugin folders as well to make sure they've got the right permissions.

Thanks so much to all of you.
Mark I checked permissions, the modxlink folder is set at 755, and link.htm and link.php are both set at 644. I checked half a dozen other plugin folders and they are all 755 as well.

Bob i haven't played with any security permissions, and there are no protected groups that I am aware of. i've just uninstalled tinyMCE and reinstalled it, no joy unfortunately.

I uploaded a php.info file based on the suggestion of the host (we haven't changed hosts recently, they were the ones who shifted our sites from one of their servers to another), this file is at
http://lavaworks-testsite.com.au/phpinfo.php if that sheds any light?

and have just had a look at the error log, there are errors in there only I'm not sure which one/s might be causing this. I'm attaching the errors if anyone has time to have look at them, would be most appreciative.

          Sorry to be so clueless...

From the dates on the errors in the error log, it doesn't look like they are related to your problem.

I found that you are not alone: https://github.com/splittingred/TinyMCE/issues/29

It looks like the first thing to do is check these System Settings (in System->System Settings -- put permissions in the search box).

            new_file_permissions 644
            new_folder_permissions 755

Then check the existing file and folder permissions for these folders and make sure they are 755 for all folders and 644 for all files.

            modx root directory
            assets
            assets/components
            asset/components/tinymce

If that doesn't do it, check the file and folder permissions inside the last three and make sure all are 644 and 755.

The odds are that your host installed SuPHP or SuExec and/or the System Settings are not correct.

Bob thank you so much again. Am looking at System Settings, and entering 'permissions' in the search field (so there's the 'filter by area' field that i'm leaving alone, then a dropdown menu, have tried with this set to 'core'(?) as well as 'tinyMCE', then i'm entering 'permissions' in the last field and hitting enter). nothing shows up though in the table below? have looked through all the options without entering anything in the search field and still can't find 'new_file_permissions' or 'new_folder_permissions' in the table below. i think i'm misunderstanding something...?

Still having no joy... Just watched http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/System+Settings in case i could find it, the 'permissions' or 'new_file_permissions' settings elude me though. I did check every folder in 'assets/components/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mcs/plugins' and all are 755, haven't checked every file inside them (is there a quick way?), for now have only checked the ones Mark suggested a day or so ago.

Sorry, it looks like those system settings have been removed. I think they're now part of the Setup process, but I think only for new installs. I don't know how you would set them.

You did check the permissions on the MODX root, assets, assets/components, and assets/components/tinyMCE directories, right?

I don't know what else to suggest. If those are correct, you're new_folder_permissions setting is probably correct also.

The only other thing I can think of is that your host stopped using suPHP or suExec, but that's very unlikely. It's worth telling your host that you seem to be having permission problems without having changed the site and ask if they've changed anything.

I've checked them all... Thanks so much again Bob. I'll get back onto the hosts and ask them if anything may have changed, must be something there as it did work a while back.
Really appreciate the help you've given.

I have run across a problem with a server security setting that limits the levels of directories from which a script is permitted to run. TinyMCE functions require 6 levels, and the server settings were set at a limit of 4 levels. The hosting tech support changed the settings and all was well.
