      Bug or just missing feature?

      When I create a page and select meta tags / keywords they get inserted into the page. But if I go back to edit the page, I cannot tell what meta tags or keywords where selected in the manager. When I go back later they are no longer highlighted. Is that how it’s supposed to be?

      It’d be nice to get those into checkboxes.

      Second that!

      It would certainly be more intuitive to use checkboxes. As the manager uses JS extensively it could be accessed with a lightbox (however, not animated, please). Speaking of keywords/meta tags, the current implementation works well for a static, site-wide, set of those but is not flexible enough to use with individual documents. After trying to use it I ended with a custom TV to hold my keywords which should not be the way to go IMO.

      I would expect an easier way to add/remove/modify keywords from within document editor. I already posted a feature request on flyspray http://modxcms.com/bugs/task/472 (well, it’s not explicit enough, as I didn’t want to impose a solution).

        It is:
            font-family: "Lucida Grande", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif !important;

        To use Lucida family with consistent results (among Mac, PC, and Linux) it should probably be:

        font-family:"lucida sans unicode", "lucida grande", lucida, sans-serif;

          Some bugs (build 1732):

          - Menu tabs in manager fall behind the previous item when mouse is hovered over a subitem in Opera 9.01. This happend also in MODx 0.9.x. See the attached screenshot for an illustration.

          - The form elements in editor use proportional font!
          /manager/media/MODxLight/style.css Line 217:
          input, select, textarea, td {
              font: inherit;
          }

          Should be changed to something like:
          td {
              font: inherit;
          }
          input, select, textarea {
              font:normal 100%/1.2 monospace;
          }

          - The configuration check warning is the manager home page is still visible (someone posted it already in this thread) after changing access permissions on config.inc.php.

          I’m not sure whether feature requests should be posted here. But I’ll try:

          - The ’collapsible top bar layout’ is gone from the manager. There is not any option to change the layout. I prefer that over the current one as it takes less space on screen and does not have display bugs in Opera (at least in 0.9.2.1) - see first bug above.

          - The font size in manager is somewhat small in Opera. I had to change it to reflect 12px to be legible. I know it is an individual preference, however the font used - by default - Arial/Helvetica on PC does have a relatively small x-base compared to, say, Tahoma.

          - The installation package includes ’bottom button bar’ module. IMO it would be more useful to make the button bar ’position:fixed’ and let the content scroll beneath it. I made a small modification in my 0.9.2.1 however it seems that this bar sits in different places for diffrent content (documents, snippets etc.). My changes to 0.9.2.1:

          In /manager/actions/dynamic/mutate_content.dynamic.action.php

          492: <div class="subTitle">
          change to:
          492: <div class="subTitle" style="position:fixed;top:0;left:0;z-index:30;">

          506: 	<div class="stay">
          change to:
          506: 	<div class="stay" style="background-image:url(media/images/bg/treeback.jpg);">

          518: <div class="sectionHeader"><img src='media/images/misc/dot.gif' alt="." /> <?php echo $_lang['document_setting']; ?></div><div class="sectionBody">
          change to:
          518: <div class="sectionHeader" style="margin-top:4em;"><img src='media/images/misc/dot.gif' alt="." /> <?php echo $_lang['document_setting']; ?></div><div class="sectionBody">

          - The header in the document context menu (in the document tree) is shifted right. This might be intentional. But there is an empty space to the left of it which might be used.

          - I would suggest to remove styling of form elements other than textfields. This topic has been discussed many times (eg. http://www.456bereastreet.com/) in context of accessibility. To get it short - it seems best practice to leave those elements (checkboxes, radios, buttons) to be styled by the browser - it is the most intuitive to the user. Also, those elements are not styled consistently by different browsers and results might be ugly sometimes.

          - Is it planned to keep frames in the manager? It would be more elegant to drop them and aim at compliance to strict doctypes IMO. The scrollable areas can still be achieved with ’overflow:auto’ and a fixed width/height if that is the reason for it.

          - MODx still doesn’t return HTTP Last-Modified header. Is it planned in 0.9.5?

          - Would it be possible to implement ’translation’ of non-ASCII document titles to automatic ASCII aliases? I mean something that is done in eg. Textpattern, where a i18n table is used to convert non-ASCII strings to ASCII ones. At the moment non-ASCII characters are stripped from aliases. See the attached image for an example.

          That’s it for the moment. I realise that some of the feature requests might require separate discussion and/or flyspray record. Just let me know and I’ll add them to it.

            Not sure we aim to provide Opera compatibility yet... the manager has been unusable so far with Opera up to 0.9.2.1 and things are getting better but not quite there yet.

              I used manager in Opera 7.23 and some later - yes, there are some bugs, but interface in overall is accessible. I like Opera (especially 9.x) and think it will be great if MODx 0.9.5 will provide Opera compatibility. Opera is popular enough in the world (espesially on different portable devices) to be worse to get sufficient attention of MODx developers. I understand that browser compatibility must be handled after the phase of intensive developing, but MODx 0.9.5 is close to Release Candidate (or at least at the senior beta).

              I also have this bug in all MODx versions and all Opera versions I have tried. I suppose it is caused not by CSS, but by some javascript properties setting. Now I do not have time to digg into this bug, but at the end of week I’ll try to find and post a fix.

                I love Opera too. If you can look into this, it would really be great smiley

                I see grad has updated his former post drastically... lots of stuff in there

                While it limits your options "out of the box", the manager is now themeable thus I guess you could modify the layout as you see fit pretty easily (banzai, correct me if I am wrong here)

                Well, again I think building a theme for the manager could allow you to have it done.
                Problem with position:fixed is IE needs some hacking to do it but sure can be done...

                Great input.

                We’ve been talking about the future of MODx and the need to build a more accessible manager down the line. This could help us build a more accessible MODx smiley I am very keen on the idea, and would like to involve MODxers when the time comes to help define the best possible GUI for the next-gen manager...

                I don’t think it will happen before 1.0 though.
                We’ve pushed the manager as far as it can go (or almost), don’t think any more rebuilding will happen before we really get started on a clean slate with 1.0 (devs, correct me if I am wrong there)

                Frames are definitely a goner for 1.0 so it’s rather a matter of getting rid of them a soons as it’s possible rather than planning to keep them wink I don’t think anyone is still keen on frames nowadays. The idea would rather be introduce some ajax to avoid those refreshing frames rolleyes

                Jason will elaborate on this, but there are some pretty great ideas behind the manager for 1.0, and basically you should get a lot of freedom to customize the GUI smiley

                Good point. It’s been discussed lately on the Custom Alias plugin thread, this might be of interrest to you smiley

                  Any clue if the next beta 3 or RC1 will be released? I notice that the current revision number is 200 more than the last release 1533 laugh

                      Haha, beta or RC, as long as it is an official release! grin
