That has been pointed out many, many times. The "reset" is a fairly new feature, before it was added it was necessary to manually enter the correct path in both places.

Hi, I have a listbox (multi-select) TV named [*workAssignment*] whose option values are
      competition||feasibility study||masterplan||preliminary plans||final plans||working plans||art direction
How can I format the output to put commas or hipens and spaces between the multiple-selected values?
At the moment it looks like (say I selected 1,3,5 and 6 values):
      competitionmasterplanfinal plansworking plans
Of course I could add a space or comma at the end of each value, but this would be semantically wrong and without control on the last one.
      Thank you
      -SOLVED-
I leave the question for reference.
      here’s the answer:
use the "delimiter list" widget and you can choose any delimiter:

embarrassed I’ve never designed a website in my life, but find I am forced to as my normal web designer is unavailable... I need to make some changes to templates on MODX (I already do all content changes, add new resources etc) but I now need to add a vertical scroll bar to each templates. How do I do this?? I found in the source code, where the current scroll function is (which is just 2 white arrows pointing up and down and if you hold your mouse over it it goes up or down grin) I want to add the standard scroll bar found on most sites, like this one, but have no idea what code to use, or how to use it.
        Please help!!

I also need to make my menu titles buttons if that makes sense??? I have a feeling that that is going to be a little more complicated though as the whole menu template will have to be changed, but I’m willing to try if someone can give me some pointers. rolleyes I’m pretty sure, most of you reading this are rolling your eyes thinking, oh how easy, but spare a thought for a newbie...we all have to start somewhere right wink

          hi Siranne,

i’m a newbie to MODx too but i think i can help with your scrollbar question.

imho, if, when your content is higher than the window you haven’t got the browser scrollbar, it must be because you have positionned everything with absolute position in your css what puts everything out of the natural flow of the page. It’s not a MODx issue but a xhtml/css one.

Actually, the same answer can be made about your buttons, MODx doesn’t care the style you use for your button when buidling a menu, it won’t be more complicated, images or not as MODx just offers the background logical that helps you building menus choosing parent and child pages you want to deal with, not the way you want them to look.

If i dare a piece of advice, you should build some working xhtml/css pages out of MODx before considering putting them in it juste to see how things work. That would help you see what are xhtml/css/(js) issues and what are MODx ones

            HI All,
new to Modx but have used Joomla for many years.

I loaded up Revolution today and was impressed in many respects. One of the parts I was scratching my head however was in the Document management. I am considering developing a video site and the way I understand it each video would be a document. But in my content manager there are no ways to organize or filter documents that I want to edit. In Joomla I could filter a particular category or section or even search for a title in the "article manager". If I have 500 videos, it would be unruly very quickly.

So is it understood that documents are usually managed by the administrator on the front end?

Also, why don’t most of the extensions have "demo" buttons. Sorry to bring up the "J" word again, but all extensions have demo buttons so you can preview and view some type of commentary. I’m truly asking to try to figure out the "culture."

Thanks, looks like a fantastic community.

              Hi,

I’m new a Newbie and i need some help.

I have been given a copy of a modx website on a disc.
              It contains the following:
              - a folder with a dump of database
              - a folder with templates and templste images(about 10 different folders of templates)
              - a folder with just images in

I need to restore the website onto a new host.
i have worked out the following:
Installed Modx onto webserver and all is fine (I think, do i need only to install modx without the basic templates that it comes with?)
I know how to restore the database on the webserver
The problem i have is that having never used Modx before I’m not sure how to restore the templates and images in the correct place to get the site up and running.
Is there anyone who can give me any help and explain what I need to do?

I hope that makes sense and if you need anymore info please ask.

              Many many thanks,

              surfthenet.

The template folders probably came from assets/templates; that’s where templates are usually kept. The images folder probably came from assets/images.

If you look in the DB, you should be able to see some templates in the modx_site_templates table. If you look at them, you should see some paths to image files and possibly paths to template files. That will tell you where to put the images. I think Sottwell is probably right about the templates.

I am a non-sophisticated first time user of any CMS web system and I spent about a week reading about all of the popular systems (Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal and a couple of others) before I settled on MODx. I chose this CMS because the product info and the user’s evaluations sounded to be the most promising. And even though user’s talked about the ease of use I have not found this to be so.

                    Why?

My knowledge of web design is hand coded html and css. The MODx Revolution rc does not have enough basic information about getting started nor an overview that would help newbies. A simple explanation about the difference and uses of the "template" interface and the "Page Resource" interface would have saved me hours of trial and error.

Although I’m not passed this issue, yet, I could learn on my own if there were a real example site to log into and see how the basics are managed. Sottwell (http://www.sottwell.com/) does this but her site is for Evolution and it is way too sophisticated to be of much use to me. I checked it out and I couldn’t make sense out of it. Way beyond my level.

If there was a very simple, and I mean very simple, site built with Revolution that could be logged into then I would learn the basics by illustration. I could look to see what went into the template, I would see what went into the page resource, I could look at chunks and before long I could have a simle site up and running.

Do you know what that would do for a sense of accomplishment?

I would not need to know snippets, plugins, or template variables and all the rest until I got rolling. All the sophisticated dynamic stuff can wait until a few pages have been cobbled together.

Also, for any beginner, such as I, it would be useful to have a beginner’s section in the forums labelled as BEGINNER where all the newbie stuff would be together. And now with Revolution being released you will have many more shifting from Evolution, but your big market will still be with new beginners to Revolution.

Ok, that’s my speil from a newbie’s point of view, but I can tell you that I am excited about the possibilities and thus I have enrolled in a beginner’s PHP course to further my skills.

                    A big thanks to MODx

All that is coming (someday) but most of the time of experienced MODx users is spent improving MODx and earning a living. For what you need to know, the information on MODx Evolution should still be helpful.

The site in my sig may help. Look at the sections on "how modx works" and "porting your site to MODx."
