MaxiGallery - startup problems - any tutorials?

I have now checked and I have used the [!.tags, which should mean the page is uncached. The only indication I get that MaxiGallery is installed is the manager-button, if I log out I cant see any pictures - the pictures are uploaded via FTP, as I cant use the upload function because of the SAFEMODE.

I thought it should be allright this way - when pictures are uploaded in the subfolder in galleries (mine is named 2) should they have a specific name - eg. 1.jpg, 2.jpg or how is the order indicated??

After you have uploaded files via FTP to /assets/galleries/2, you need to go to the document with ID 2 and use the manage pictures button to make maxigallery management visible and then select the "resynch gallery" button to make maxigallery look for new pictures in the file system. Then the pictures will appear in MaxiGallery picture management and you can order them etc.

Thanks for the advice - unfortunately the SAFE MODE prevents me from using the MaxiGallery management in any way - also if I just try to resynch, I get the same error message.
I think the conclusion is that I wont be able to use ModX / MaxiGallery for the project.

That’s a pity coz this is a great CMS. Why not use modx and jQuery as I suggested? There’s lots of examples on such an implementation...I can send you the links if you want...

I’m aware that I give up a good CMS - I have tried implementing jQuery Cycle Plugin, but I’m a designer with very little knowledge of programming, and couldn’t get it work... wonder how JQuery is working, can I place pictures from the Modx control panel, and the plugin will automatically put the pictures in a slideshow, or do I have to write some code (e.g. the names of the pictures) in the content area for each slideshow I want???

Gregory uses JCarousel in a very smart way with very clear instructions for implementation in modx.

Extracted and ftp’ed the folder ’jcarousel’ to manager/media/script

Put this in my template in <head>:

Made a new snippet - named it ’directory’ - and pasted the text into it

At the page where I want the gallery I know put this in my content-area:
[!directory? &Location=`assets/images/`!]

What do I do then? Add som images? - I have tried that but the images just show normally - no slideshow :-(

With jQuery you can just place you images inside a DIV, jQuery will then automaticly create a slideshow for you. The code from jQuery is very simple, just look in the plugin library from jQuery to find simple examples.

I use modx + maxigallery + jQuery on a site to get a slideshow, works perfect for me!

Like MediaGuy says, there are different implementation methods. The method described by Gregory was to achieve a certain goal, i.e. "creating a MODx snippet that could dynamically create an unordered list by only placing and removing images in a specific directory"...i.e. making things easy for the customer.

That said, there are other ways of achieving what you want. If you want to achieve what Gregory did, then you can follow that method. However, since this will be your porfolio site (won’t it?) you probably don’t need that method. You can use the other methods. Have a read of this http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/ if you haven’t already. It tells you how to implement the carousel.

How many photos will you have? The argument for using jcarousel lite is that "it is a light-weight alternative for users whose primary focus is not to build a full-blown image gallery"
