    Thanks for the suggestions.
    AbbeyRoad i tried the fix ...no luck i’m afraid.
    I’ll try the php5 to php4 route and see what happens. In theory it shouldn’t make any difference.......I’m still pondering why opening the manager in a second browser window (IE) or tab (FF) things work as they should?

        It sounds like a personal firewall setting gone awry. Or something. Have you tried on other machines?

          Yep i’ve disabled all Norton services. No luck. The question is why would it parse things differently when i view it in a secondary tab or open it in another browser window??
          Something is causing it to use the non SEF urls which is when i lose the top nav. This corrects itself when i open the manager in another window. I’m in the process of setting up a dev environment on my laptop. I’ll let you know if i have more luck.

          Cheers.

            Are you using the .htaccess file for SEF URLs? If so, you also need to have the one in the /manager folder that turns off the rewrite engine. The Manager does’t work with SEF URLs on.

              Yep i’ve got the .htaccess file in the manager. However this is what is happening

              This is the source code for the manager in FF- no nav bar.
              <html>
              <head>
              <title>MODx</title>
              <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
              <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="media/style/MODx/style.css?" />
              <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="media/style/MODx/coolButtons2.css?>" />

              <script language="JavaScript">

              This is the source when i open it in a secondary tab in FF - this works!

                I see the first include is "header.inc.php" and the second is actually using (i presume) the correct setting of "snap in heading" in "1.php" I’m scratching my head!

                  Tracked it down to AllowOverride being set to none in httpd.conf. Thanks for all the suggestions/help.
