One picture can only be in one gallery. Or not exactly true, you can query pictures from multiple galleries by using picture id’s. It’s not possible to add keywords to pictures though or sort them with some keyword.
So no, you cannot use Ditto to do this.

WYSIWYG Gallery Manager (front end)
It would be nice if the sort window became the primary manager which also allowed you to see and modify the title/description, and delete or hide any image. All from the same WYSIWYG layout.

And speaking of WYSIWYG, it would be nice if we could change the width and height of the thumbnail layout from the manager instead of having it embeded into the snippet call.

Third, at the moment it seems like only back end manager users (MODx back end) can manage or upload photos to a gallery. Having the MaxiGallery manager features accessible to a specific web user group would be nice. For example, the same users who can make blog posts could also manage a gallery.

This is already possible, see maxigallery wiki page in modx wiki and the parameters that have "web" in them.

What about extending the scope of maxigallery to be able to manage anything you can make a thumb of ?
The logic behind is the same as it is now:
You have a collection of items, you associate thumbs to those items, when you click a thumb an action is performed using the corresponding item.
You just should be able to choose how to handle each type of media.
This will allow to use maxigallery for movies, pdf files, etc...
Many of us make videos with our cameras as well as photographs, and it is a shame to have those videos in another place....
Just an idea.
You could create TV’s to keep the path to a thumbnail picture and path to the file, then create thumbnail listings with Ditto.. no need to use MaxiGallery at all..
I have been imaging a new script for 0.9.7 what will be a set of multiple snippets to make galleries of different things.. eg each display type would be a addon to the "core" gallery snippet and for example video file support would be an addon.. but I don’t have any timeline when I start to do that..
The current incarnation of MaxiGallery has reached "maintenance" state in my mind and I won’t be adding much to it anymore.. It’s way too bloated already and trying to handle too much on it’s own..

Putting in possibility for using transparent png´s for shadows.
Be able to put two maxigallery calls on one page and that they are 2 seperate galleries.
I need this often for left side and rightside of a page for instans,
or a list of pictures on the right and left a big image with thumbs below this.
lots of other reasons to alow more that one gallery per page.
I know that we could use the manage on another page or get from another page part but that way I need to create for each "normalpage" 1 extra page to use that ID only.
