      Hi,

      This is directly a problem with the bridge, but is probably related to the reply here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,3565.msg56701.html#msg56701

      I’ve just upgraded to SMF 1.1.1 from 1.1RC2. I then received the following error:

      « MODx Parse Error »
      MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
      « PHP Parse Error »

      PHP error debug
      Error: ini_set() [function.ini-set]: A session is active. You cannot change the session module’s ini settings at this time.
      Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
      File: /home/xxxxxx/public_html/forum/Sources/Load.php
      Line: 1903
      Line 1903 source: @ini_set(’session.use_trans_sid’, false);

      MySQL: 0.0055 s s (0 Requests)
      PHP: 0.1185 s s
      Total: 0.1240 s s

      I’ve been using the this snippet so that I could output some of the forum to my webpages via SSI - I assume that this is the cause of the problem.

      From the SMF forum code Sources/Load.php

      // Attempt to start the session, unless it already has been.
      function loadSession()
      {
      	global $HTTP_SESSION_VARS, $modSettings, $boardurl, $sc;

      	// Attempt to change a few PHP settings.
      	@ini_set('session.use_cookies', true);
      	@ini_set('session.use_only_cookies', false);
      	@ini_set('url_rewriter.tags', '');
      	/* @ini_set('session.use_trans_sid', false); */
      	@ini_set('arg_separator.output', '&');

      	if (!empty($modSettings['globalCookies']))
      	{
      		$parsed_url = parse_url($boardurl);

      		if (preg_match('~^\d{1,3}(\.\d{1,3}){3}$~', $parsed_url['host']) == 0 && preg_match('~(?:[^\.]+\.)?([^\.]{2,}\..+)\z~i', $parsed_url['host'], $parts) == 1)
      			@ini_set('session.cookie_domain', '.' . $parts[1]);
      	}

      (I’ve commented out the offending line @ini_set(’session.use_trans_sid’, false); as temporary fix)

      The code from Sources/Load.php in SMF 1.1RC2 was:

      // Attempt to start the session, unless it already has been.
      function loadSession()
      {
      	global $HTTP_SESSION_VARS, $modSettings, $boardurl, $sc;

      // Attempt to change a few PHP settings.
       if (session_id() == '') {
      	@ini_set('session.use_cookies', true);
      	@ini_set('session.use_only_cookies', false);
      	@ini_set('url_rewriter.tags', '');
      	@ini_set('session.use_trans_sid', false);
      	@ini_set('arg_separator.output', '&');
      }
      	if (!empty($modSettings['globalCookies']))
      	{
      		$parsed_url = parse_url($boardurl);

      		if (preg_match('~^\d{1,3}(\.\d{1,3}){3}$~', $parsed_url['host']) == 0 && preg_match('~(?:[^\.]+\.)?([^\.]{2,}\..+)\z~i', $parsed_url['host'], $parts) == 1)
      			@ini_set('session.cookie_domain', '.' . $parts[1]);
      	}

      Any help would be greatly appreciated,

      Thanks.

      Edit: I forgot to mention, I’m using MODx 0.9.2.1. I guess I should upgrade that first.

        Upgrade won’t make any difference; in order to use SMF and MODx together, you have to modify their session code (as you did) to make it work.

          Thanks jason.

          Will there be some code change to resolve this? I know it’s piffling issue, just so that other non-teckies, such as myself, don’t experience the same error. What is the result, if any, of my commenting out this piece of code?

          Thanks.

            Sorry I didn’t reply to this sooner. The only result of this is servers without the proper default configuration, that allow setting the local value of that session configuration variable, will not get that setting changed. But, since MODx requires that setting as well, and never attempts to change the configuration setting, if MODx works, this will not affect anything.

            The only code change that would solve it is by the SMF folk...

              Cool, ModX is now more and more powerfull grin

              Little question to install : HOW TO configure "the forum base path" if ModX and SMF are not on the same sub-domain ?

              ex: Modx http://www.mysite.org and SMF http://forum.mysite.org (the directory of SMF is not a subdirectory of http://www.mysite.org)

              Edit : I found the solution alone tongue. I used the php_info (in the manager) to have the real path.

              Remark : In the configuration panel, the password for the administrator of SMF is visible !!! Not very secure shocked

              Dear All
              I am new to modx and CMS/CMF in general. I am getting to grips with understanding the power it can offer me. My reason for writing is that i was encouraged to see a forum module compatible with modx. I have followed the instructions to set it up but have had a problem running it. I get an error message saying "make sure the SMF path was entered correctly". My path is

              c:/program files/easyphp1-8/www/modx-0.9.5/assets/modules/smforum

              If i understand the documentation this path is the path to the SMF files and folder. Another question: if having followed the readme file to the letter how can the Forum Base Path be in a folder that does not exist i.e. d:/wwwroot/modx/forums ?

              I hope that you can help as I’m starting to really like modx!

              Kind regards
              Resh

                Can anyone tell me if it is possible to integrate SMF from one domain into ModX running on another?
                They are both on the same server, and database. One is a domain setup to handle my community, and the other to handle business.

                thanks

                  Hello,

                  I have a problem with SMF bridge. It’s possible to Synchronize Users MODx <-> SMF, it works fine.

                  MOSx - path: /xxxx/xxxx/html
                  SMF - path: /xxxx/xxxx/html/smf
                  URL: http://server.com/ and http://server.com/smf
                  I work with SMF 1.1.2 and MODx 0.9.5.

                  If I click "register" or "logout" in SFM, I will be directed to http://server.com/xxxx/xxxx/html/index.php.... , it should be http://server.com/index.php... and there is of course a 404 error.

                  Does anyone has a hint or fix for this problem? User syncronisation is working without errors.

                  Thanks and regards

                    Since the MODx rewrite rules are in a parent directory of the SMF installation, if you have rewrite rules for SMF, you would need to merge those into the ones in the root. I run into similar problems with any application installed in a subdirectory of the MODx root with friendly URLs enabled. If SMF is not using rewrite rules to accomplish friendly URLs, then I’m wrong and you should ignore this... wink

                      Thanks for your idea. I’ve moved MODx in a new directory (.../cms/) in order to solve this problem. It don’t work, same error. I hope it was not the wrong way?
