Thanks for the clarification. That’s good to know as I’m still getting my feet wet with MODx and have no background in SMF or any other forum, but looking to launch a new site that will revolve around both.

Nice knowing that there are different options depending on what level of functionality is needed.

Sorry, I haven’t read the whole thread (most of it though), but I can’t get bridge to work.
SMF is working fine and so is MODx.
First of all, the user sync is not working. When I click "Synchronize" I get this message which is very nice smiley

      Synchronize Users
0 SMF user account(s) imported into MODx.
6 MODx web user account(s) exported to SMF.

Click here to return to the main menu.
      System Log

      * Redirect SMF login, logout and register functions to MODx
      * MODx web user ’admin’ already exists. Ignoring SMF account import...
      * MODx web user ’user1’ was successfully exported to SMF.
      * MODx web user ’user2’ was successfully exported to SMF.
      * MODx web user ’user3’ was successfully exported to SMF.
      * MODx web user ’user4’ was successfully exported to SMF.
      * MODx web user ’user5’ was successfully exported to SMF.
      * MODx web user ’user6’ was successfully exported to SMF.

But nothing happened in DB. Just the admin account that was created at install (with the same pssword as MODx admin...).
When I login to MODx (via WebLogin) I checked the SMFCookie10, It was like this:
      a%3A3%3A%7Bi%3A0%3Bi%3A1%3Bi%3A1%3Bs%3A40%3A%22d9e47f992fb34c292798351fcd31ba1ee27599b1%22%3Bi%3A2%3Bi%3A1160039115%3B%7D

Then I clicked the "Forum" Weblink on my site, and I was not logged into SMF. Now I logged into the SMF (with it’s own login form) and got the SMFCookie10 like this:
      a%3A3%3A%7Bi%3A0%3Bs%3A1%3A%221%22%3Bi%3A1%3Bs%3A32%3A%22b17b57dd1d9c6fc540ad81ae6cbadb4e%22%3Bi%3A2%3Bi%3A1160039181%3B%7D

I guess that is why the auto-login doesn’t work. It doesn’t work in the module admin panel either. I just get the SMF login page.

Found out what was wrong! I was using the wrong version, 1.0.9, but it took me a couple of nights to figure it out!
Recently upgraded to RC3, and found it working smiley

To: Anyone having strange troubles with syncing and getting SMF to work with Modx using the SMF Integration, or bridge, or whatever-you-want-to-call-it module.

I was having many difficulties with syncing and various other troublesome problems until I installed smf as a subdirectory to my modx folder and then stopped using a sub-domain to get to it. Instead of a subdomain pointing to a folder, i now used mydomain.com/mysmfinstall and things are working as they should. I’m not sure if this is just because of how my hosting service, www.1and1.com, fowards subdomains or not, but my guess is that if i understood PHP better, i could make my original sub-domain setup work just fine.

Anyway, if you’re like me and having lots of trouble that you can’t figure out, and you’re using a subdomain to point to your SMF forum, i would suggest just using a subdirectory instead and seeing if that helps clear things up. I hope this helps someone!

Before I get to deep into development I wanted to know if there is anything I need to watch out for in preparation for transition from a XAMMP development to a LAMMP production environment that is specific to this module?

I’ve read about how to transfer a modx site and that all seems quite clear. I am more concerned with the fact that my development SMF has a different set of users than my production version (which is already in use without MODx).

From what i’ve read, I’m guessing that the transistion would require clearing my MODx Web Users, but it’s not clear to me what I need to do to get MODx and SMF synchronized in the production envronment...

          Re-install the module?
Re-run the module? (I’m guessing this is it)
Re-synchronize? (along with the last one)

BTW, does anyone know if the Case Sensitive workaround is still necessary with beta3-rev1533?

          Thanks!

@Marturion : You might want to have a look at your SMF cookie settings. It might just be that they where configured to work on your subdomain.

@JoeP: Before installing the SMF bridge on your LAMP server you need to make sure that both MODx and SMF are working just fine. Next you need to make sure that you have the correct physical path to your SMF installation.

Once you have the path information you can go ahead and install or reinstall the SMF module and reconfigure the parameters.

Note: If you don’t need your MODx Dev users on your production server then you will need to remove those INSERT records from your SQL script.

I have a working install of SMF 1.1 RC3, and ModX 1.9.2.1 I installed the Bridge as specified, but when in ModX, and I click the SMF connector Module I get this Error:

Unable to Load SMF Settings. Please Make sure the SMF Path was entered correctly.

I have smf installed as http://www.mydomain/forum/

I’d like to know if something like "update the modx users -> update smf users" is planned to be developped...
It could be great to sync also this... (Not inserts but updates...)

                  @Pikachu :

Such features can be added to the SMF plugin that does the login stuff. I didn’t plan on adding them anytime soon but if someone can assist then that would be great

                    Hi,

I’ve some problems with the module. The problem is probably due to the fact that my forum is not in the same domain name than my site. I’ve my modxsite on mysite.test.com and my forum on forum.mysite.test.com . When i want to connect on the forum, the redirection to the login page in modx works, so i can connect in modx. After that I’m redirected to the forum but I’m not logged in the forum.
I think that it is a cookie problem but I’ve some difficulties to resolve it.

                    Could someone help me?

                    Thank you.

Try setting your SMF cookie domain to test.com. I’m thinking that it might be currently set to forum.mysite.test.com.
