Ecwid Shopping Cart works great with MODx

All the features you get for free now, will always be free.

There are two versions of Ecwid, one if paid and one is free. You might want to check that out

Sounds interesting. But what I miss is a shop system which integrates it’s products into search result from the modx search engine.

Regarding a possible integration of a Shopping Cart with MODx look at this page. Depending the complexity of your search requests (which tables), I could examine and propose you a customisation of AjaxSearch.

The development of these customisations needs some PHP and/or MySQL code lines in a configuration file or a dedicated javascript file to manage the user interactions. These developments don’t require to hack the AjaxSearch code. But need to know AjaxSearch

But, I should also add to my prev comment that I meant any customization like logic or cupons would cost some $ as it’s on your site and not on the site where modx actually runs. Yeah, I see cupons can be enabled when subscribed to non-free plan...as well as other "can be tweaked" only default features

I am not good in checking out but I definitly will have to check it out and be ready for people’s questions to my helpdesk if any asked ever )) Just registered and will try to add a demo product just like I have in Treasure Chest and Shopkeeper

SaaS and "your own app on your own server" models have different pros and cons. So we cannot really say that for example any of them is definitely better than the other one. It depends on what you want to get.

SaaS`s pros: no issues or problems with upgrades, security, performance.
Cons: no access to the source code, thus limited customization abilities

"Your own app on your own server"`s pros: access to the source code, so you can modify anything you want
Cons: you should tweak, change and maintain everything (code, servers, upgrades) yourself.

Well, I personally, prefer SaaS. That`s why I use for ex. Gmail instead of creating my own mail server

Yep, Ecwid (i.e. the ervice itself) doesn’t have a GPL license, but it is free.
The module which integrates Ecwid and ModX is free and has GPLv3 license.

Ecwid has a freemium business model. The most features are free, some premium features are available for $17/mo.
