I was intending to use MODx a while back to redevelop a site for a client and gave up for lack of a good cart (he didn’t want to pay monthly for Foxycart). So I’ve been working with Joomla and the free cart modules they have on offer, happened to notice this new cart and the good reviews it was getting.

It is an excellent cart for most uses, AJAX-y and a bit like Foxycart, takes variety of payments.

I just tried it on my Evo install and it works great. It’s a webapp that is served off Amazon EC2, you just drop a bit of javascript in the page and there it is, just arrange it with divs as needed. It is free because it is beta but they claim there will always be a free version. Anyway, check it out.

        Hi
I didn’t have a good experience with it with MODx.
The sign in with Google account still doesnt work, it appears.

Hi! We’ve answered you in this ticket: http://www.ecwid.com/bt/view.php?id=2008
Actually it wasn’t an Ecwid issue or an issue itself, just some sort of misunderstanding.

The only minuses I see in Ecwid is that it’s hosted solution so 1) I can’t play with it’s code to customise it; 2) it can become not so free at one point so you have to start to pay monthly fee for example.

              1. Currently Ecwid is free. We’re going to add paid accounts with premium features later, but all the features you get for free now will remain free. Free account will always be available.

              2. You can customize Ecwid’s look: http://kb.ecwid.com/CSS-Faq
When we add an API, it will be possible to customize its logic too.

I just signed up for an Ecwid account, and after about an hour tinkering with it I have to say that my first impression is that it absolutely rocks. I integrated it into a test Modx site in 10 minutes.

I can absolutely see myself using this on both my own and clients websites. I would like to see more payment gateway options supported, such as Paypal standards, so hope to see that supported soon.

                  Kyle,

PayPal Standard will be added in the next Ecwid version. It will be released in a few weeks.

                      Interesting!

Is there a way to download Ecwid and install it on a local testing ground (MAMP for example) while developing custom MODx sites? It would be nice to get the system working without involving real credit card charges etc. I guess you could set prices at $.02 per item to see if the system is working correctly...
