Can anyone who has set this up with "Sandbox" Paypal testing outline what needs to be done on that end?

Hi,

To test TreasureChest with PayPal Sandbox environment you need a PayPal developper account.

Once created, stay connected and create a fictive buyer account, as well as at least one fictive seller accounts.
For both, you’ll need email adresses. You can use email at your own domain name.
For example, [email protected] and [email protected].

Once the fictive seller/buyer profiles created, PayPal will ask you to confirm several things like credit card information for both the seller and the buyer, as if you were setting real PayPal accounts. Note that you don’t need any real credit card for this.

Emails to the seller and buyer fall in virtual mailboxes that you’ll find in the PayPal Sandbox environment.
Also watch from time to time your developper mailbox, which is a real email.

Once all this is done, search on the web where to find the "PayPal token" that identifies the buyer.
Copy it at the right place in TreasureChest.

Then, all should work fine.
Don’t forget to be connected as PayPal developper when you test transactions. Without that, it won’t work.

Thanks very much for your reply. I signed up at the PayPal Sandbox site and set up a test buyer and a test seller. That seemed straightforward.

However, could you elaborate a bit more on this part you wrote :

Also, when you are saying "connected as PayPal developer" do you mean logged into PayPal in another browser tab at the same time I am testing the TreasureChest app, or are you referencing an email address and password combo that one gets when signed up as a developer?

I’m sorry I was not more explicit. I was telling about the PDT token.
PDT means "Payment Data Transfer".
Read this. It will help.

In TreasureChest Configuration, you must copy the PDT token that PayPal gives.
Login to TreasureChest’s product manager and then you’ll find the button to change the configuration.

I mean both! You’ll use your developper email address and password to login as developper. And this can be done in another tab as the one you use to test TreasureChest.

I found out the demo from this interesting post on from the German part of the forum, which let us know what Shopkeepers offers more than TreasureChest.

If you don’t speak German, you can get a good idea about its content by using translate.google.com or equivalent.

There is however something that I prefer with TreasureChest: the buyer doesn’t have to key-in its name, email, a.s.o.
All this is retrieved from PayPal. This makes buying easier and sales potentially higher.

Also I’m totally lost with Shopkeeper installation notes, but this is for another thread or email-based help. Thanks.

Has anyone looked into integrating something like this

Once I feel like I’ve got the whole sandbox-thing working with TreasureChest then I might start to look into this. But if anyone more knowledgeable than me about issues like this (such a person shouldn’t be hard to find at all!) can point out issues or shortcomings, I’d like to hear about it.

Okay, I finally tracked down how to get the PDT for my Sandbox account :
- Log in to the PayPayl Sandbox using the test store account that was set up
- Go to Profile -> More Options -> Website Payment Preferences
- Turn on Auto Return and provide a URL. Also, select the PDT button. (I think both of these need to be done)
- After doing this, you are given a PDT, which should be put in the TC
Manager Module (Product Manager -> Edit Configuration)

Fine. Yet when I now try to "Checkout" using the button that is on the default TC cart, I’m taken to a webpage at Paypal that says please log in.

I feel like I’m missing something pretty basic. Any pointers?

UPDATE : Okay, it looks like I was not logged in to the developer.paypal.com site at the same time that I was testing the app. When I was logged in in another browswer tab and clicked on the paypal button in TC, it directed me to log in as the test buyer, at which point I could "pay now" and be redirected back to my site. So far, so good ...

I am lost on TC, but really believe that it is the right product for what i am looking to do. Is there an idiots walk through, or something that will help me to go through ot step by step?

Honestly guys and gals, Treasure Chest was long ago abandoned as mentioned elsewhere on the forums and possibly in this thread. Same for Kiwee Commerce. You really should investigate some other options that have some momentum or that work wonderfully alongside MODx. I think you’re two most likely contenders are Shopkeeper and FoxyCart, with FoxyCart being actively developed as a very affordable paid solution.

I can’t really disagree with that. However, most of the work/discussion in Shopkeeper has taken place in Russian. Which is fine for those that can read Russian. But I can’t so that means I’ve got a learning curve there. On top of that, it’s not set up (yet) to deal with Paypal or some of the other gateways.

On the other hand, TC does have a working Paypal "loop". So as a testbed for seeing how that and other PHP-based gateways work, it may accelerate moving Shopkeeper in that direction by creating a discussion/testing in a more-broadly-read forum. I don’t think it hurts to have Shopkeeper expertise developing in more than one forum. In fact it might help ensure that it doesn’t become the latest cart casualty.

At least that’s what I see the benefit being for me. Of course, as soon as there are some Shopkeeper demos that I can follow and, say, Paypal and Authorize.net set up as gateways, TC hits the dirt. I can’t even get it’s placeholders to display in a receipt ...

Just my two cents ...
