    White page

    After filling in the form and hitting submit I get a white page with no HTML or anything the (URL remains the same to).

    Annoyingly this is intermittent some times its fine and goes through to the thank you page. And mail is sent.

    Any ideas where I start to debug this

    I’ve never seen that. What version of MODx are you using? Are you using SMTP (and if so, are you using the SPForm SMTP parameters)?

    Do you have a <base href> tag in the <head> section of your template?

      One of my clients reported this same behavior today however I can’t replicate it yet so it seems to be intermittent.

      I have the base href tag on the site and it’s Running on windows 2008/IIS7.5. SPForm is not using SMTP.

      Will update this post if I figure any more details.

        I have seen something similar in recent version of Revo when MODx uses sendRedirect(), but not with SPForm (which I don’t actually *use* since I rarely send email messages to myself) and only with certain browsers. I believe it’s a problem with sendRedirect(), but no one can reproduce it now, so it may be fixed in the dev. version. Then again, it could be intermittent, or an IIS problem in your case.

        The relevant code is around line 490 of core/components/spform/classes/spformprocclass.inc.php if you feel like doing some debugging.

        This might be helpful

        if (empty($responseURL)) {
            $this->modx->log(modX::LOG_LEVEL_ERROR,'Response URL for Thank You page is empty');
        }

        Although I suspect that the problem is inside sendRedirect() rather than makeUrl();

          Thanks for the quick response - I’ve now updated my notification settings so I get an email update.

          Will maybe get time to take a look at the line you suggest later but have a few jobs that need to go out first this week.

          Ta.

            When i put german umlauts (ä, ü, ö, ß) into the language file, they show up as if they were non utf-8 letters.
            2.0.6 pl, SPForm 3.1.3 beta1

            Any idea?

                @doggo & @sottwell:

                Using SPForm with utf-8

                There were problems with SPForm, because the language files were orignally non utf-8.
                This is not specific to SPForm and concerns most snippets.

                Ideally, each language file with accented characters should come in two versions "utf-8" and "latin-1" (or else).

                Also make sure that the snippet files are themselves in utf-8.
                (The snippet should come in two versions: utf-8 and latin.)

                You can easily convert to utf-8 and vice versa with some editors.

                I’m going to describe here the procedure for PSPad:

                1) Open PSPad. Set the format to ANSI (Format->ANSI)
                2) Drag and drop your file in the editor.
                3) Convert the encoding by choosing (Format->utf-8)
                4) Save the file.

                You must repeat this procedure for each file. This means that you must switch back to ANSI between each file you want to convert. It can be quite long.

                If you don’t know if a file is encoded in utf-8 or not, you can drag and drop it in an hexadecimal viewer like xvi32. (PSPad also has its own hexadecimal viewer if you prefer).

                Utf-8 files have (most) accented characters stored on two bytes. On the contrary, with latin files, each accented character is stored on one byte.

                Hope this helps.

                  I am going to apologize beforehand, I am still learning MODx and well PHP based coding for that matter. So while things may be completely obvious to others, I will probably have totally overlooked.

                  So the situation is that I am running Rev 2.0.4 on a Godaddy linux server. Reading around their forums mail() is active and usable and there is a backup option if needed using a relay server. I installed the package through the manager and pretty much left things as default except for filling out the email address when it asked for it. Didn’t create anything else, it was really simple and cut and dry. But when I fill out the form it takes a second and then returns with "Sorry - Mail system reports failure in sending message. The most likely cause is an invalid return email address. Note: If ISP mail() function is blocked, Webmaster should try SMTP option". So I past in the relay server information into the smtp host part, turn smtp on and just left the username and password empty. But I am still getting the same message. I even tried to change the return email address. I am lost as to what to do next.

                  I did notice I got a email in my junk email with:

                  ----- Transcript of session follows -----
                  ... while talking to relay-hosting.secureserver.net.:
                  >>> MAIL From:<[email protected]> SIZE=1024
                  <<< 553 sorry, your mail was administratively denied. (#5.7.1)
                  501 5.6.0 Data format error

                  Not sure what that means, it uses my email as the FROM but I sent the email from the server...

                  Any help would be grand.

                    I’m not sure what that could mean. I’d recommend installing the QuickEmail snippet. It will tell you quickly if the mail() system is working at your site.

                      Hey Bob,

                      since I switched to the german language file, the contact form rejects any email adress. Could you tell me where to look for the error?

                      Regards,

                      Guido

                      Edit: Hm. Now its the invalid referrer...
