It should answer some of your questions. The "Full Featured" theme was removed in favor of the more slimmed down Content Editor theme. You can still use every plugin and button if you wish to by simply using the Custom theme and adding entries for all plugins and buttons. I prefer using the Content Editor theme...has just about everything I could ever use. And the Custom theme is great when you simply want a very specific configuration.

If you are upgrading to 2.1.11, and your link list has disappeared, it is because it has been moved to a config option in the plugin. To re-enable it, go to Resources -> Plugins -> TinyMCE -> Configuration, and change "List list" to enabled.

Yeah...sorry about that! Had to do it since some users might have large sites and having this enabled would cause a serious lag in performance. Imaging having to parse through over a 1000 pages! Ugg!

Hallo everyone,

I just started a few days ago to use TinyMCE with MODx and everything works out fine, except one thing:

When I copy a text "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit." from somewhere (lets say an open TinyMCE editor) and paste it into my current documents TinyMCE editor and then have a look at the HTML code it looks like this:



For a HTML purist like me this is kind of very annoying. So what I basically need is to tell TinyMCE is to ignore the formatting of any pasted text. Although pondering the TinyMCE Wiki I could not find any hint how to do this.

Has anyone any hints for me?

On a default install of MODx, there should be two buttons in the top row with clipboards and the letters "T" and "W" in front of them. The one with the "T" pastes in plain text, which is what I believe you are trying to do. The one with the "W" tries to keep the formatting from something from Microsoft Word, but cleans up the junk it adds.

thanks for your reply. Yes you are right with the insert text function. But in the end its not me pasting the content, but my clients. And to explain to them to always use this function ... they won’t do it since it looks correct on the outside.

There must be a better solution I hope? I mean if not ... that would mean that in the end the whole site would be full of tons of useless formating garbage, which is difficult to get rid of once it is there.

Anyone else any idea? (I am a little desperate ...)

I think you should post this question on the moxiecode forums. This is more a TinyMCE issue then a ModX plugin issue. They are much more likely to have an answer for you.

yes I did already (http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=7427) but the support there is quite bad. Didn’t get any replies or hints. My idea was that there must be some TinyMCE specialists around here.

So back again with some interesting news on my own question:

• it seems there is no real solution to the problem
• there are some hacks possible which work unfortunately only in IE
• I guess that I have to torture my clients to use the paste text popup

Unfortunately, Bogdan, there isn’t a simple answer. Neither the Moxiecode or the FCKEditor development teams have their editors set to automatically cleanup Word HTML. Both provide plugins for this but, as you have found out, in order for them to work properly you have to initiate the plugin via a "Paste from Word" button. Neither will automatically do it via a CTRL+V (CMD+V on Mac) so removing the standard Paste button doesn’t fix the problem entirely. Question is, if the Word cleanup plugins were on all the time would they mess up pasted code that isn’t specifically Word HTML. That’s probably one of the primary reasons why they don’t make it a default cleanup option and have implemented it as a stand-alone plugin.

Now, in regards to your users not using the "Paste from Word" feature properly...well...my take on that is this...

You have to train your clients on how to use MODx anyways. If this is one of the features you emphasize to them and tell them how important it is to use and they don’t use it right, whose fault is that? I tell users around my office all the time and harp on them about a variety of things like this. You can only do so much. It’s their choice on whether they listen and learn or not. As long as you teach it to them and emphasize the importance then that is all you can do.

Also, if you really wanna bitch about it, blame Microsoft! I’ve always hated the fact that they use such crappy markup in the HTML of pasted text from Word! Good news is that Office 2007 seems to not have this problem nearly as much. About the only thing I noticed when pasting from Word 2007 is a few class attributes.
