just what I need

any way to exclude file types from displaying? ( index.html for example)

you can use the parameter &showExt to only show the extensions you want. There is no parameter for excluding certain extensions though.

All.. I have no idea how to get this Download Counter working?

I see the table is created in my database, but it’s empty?

Also, the output of the link (mp3 file) is a direct link? (How can that track?) ... I do not have a plugin installed, using snippet....

The link works fine, so does the templating... but no DL tracking sad

(Not sure why the URL is just a normal URL?)

To my knowledge, you need FileDownloadPlugin installed for download counting to work.

Testing now... thanks. Is it true that "Use friendly alias path" cannot be set to "Yes" ?

UPDATE:

I have the plugin installed (system event checked), my TV created (file path declared), etc... No go.

Now the URL gets output as /directory//nameoffile.mp3 ....

No luck. sad

Turns out it appears to be a conflict with StrictURLs Plugin v0.8.2 sad

... Thanks for your help getting set up, now I need to figure out the problem with the conflicting plugins...

Hmm... so if using the Plugin Method, is there not a way to "Force Download" out of the box?

Basically, I’m having them download a MP3 file, but I don’t want it to load in their browser, etc... I’ve used forced dialogs before through modifying the headers/cache/content type etc, ... has anyone done something similar within MODx / FileDownloadPlugin?

NOTE: I was not able to get FileDownload snippet to work when I have StrictURL plugin installed/activated. Since this is a test, and only for ONE file, it’s no biggie for me to hard code the file, however, I DO have to use the modified .htaccess and &d= query string parameter.

I guess I should find out, can FileDownload snippet be used to output ?query string download URL?

Also, I DO have full alias path for FURLs enabled, and tracking works great... (again, not using snippet, but would like to if possible)

thats right, you have to use the plugin for download counting. The plugin is what counts the download and then serves the file. Using the plugin is much more secure than using the old download script, and that is why it is now required for the counting.

I have a curious issue with FileDownload (using the FileDownloadPlugin).

I have followed instructions and all seems to be working fine - files appear in front end and folders can be navigated. However when you try to download a file:
page refreshes > address bar changes to, eg: http://modx.mysite.ws/downloads.html/lady.jpg > and NO file is downloaded.

If I right click on the file and save link as: I get the entire html code of the page saved in jpg format :0

What gives?

Here’s my call:

[!FileDownload? &getFolder=`assets/snippets/filedownload` &downloadGroups=`Registered Users`  &imgLocat=`assets/images/icons-download` &imgTypes=`FileDownload-image` &includeFileSize=`1`  &browseDirectories=`1` &groupByDirectory=`1` &userSort=`extension` &tplList=`FileDown-tpl`!]

My TV for filedownloadplugin points to: assets/downloads/

I use SEF URL’s without friendly alias path.
I have de-activated SEF and still I get the same problem.

Any ideas?

Hi there ... I love this snippet/plugin combo (v2.5) but I have one question ...

is it possible to have manager groups able to view the "delete" link or it it ONLY specified web user groups?

I only ask because it would be useful to be able to remove files from the server while logged in as manager rather than logging out and logging in again as web user.
