MODx is currently installed in http://domain.com/~user and as soon as the site is finished, the domain will be changed to http://new-domain.com

Friendly URL’s will remain in place and I’ll update any links that get broken, but in most cases I have used:



Therefore the correct link in RSS feeds for NOW should be http://domain.com/~user/document and this is working for everything else on the site, its just RssFeed that adds the extra /~user

(using MODX 0.9.1)

I broke down the code on line 139 to see if I could find the problem.


The following code creates http://domain.com/~user/


The next part of the code creates /~user/document.html



So due to my VERY limited understanding of MODx API, how can I call just document aliaes without the preceding "/~user/" ?

And another thing how to I prefix it with rss:// rather than http:// as it uses the makeURL cmmand which uses http://

So your saying that inside of every <link> tag in the rss you want it to be prefixed with rss:// ?

Sorry, that wasn’t very clear was it

I meant the link URL when you use the command &makerss=0. The links inside the XML file (feed) will still be HTTP://

I have done a little more research and I’ll prefix the link with feed:// instead.

(I also still need to fix the aliaes issue with the extra "/~user/" being added)

Doh, just dawned on me, can be done by adding it to the page prior to the snippet

(page 45) has the snippet

Of course now I have tried it I’m going back to not using it because if you copy and paste the link to another application (eg Thunderbird) it says its an invalid feed address as it doesn’t understand feed:// as URI

Trying to get away from less net savvy users clicking on a link and getting the XML source in the browser and thinking somethings broken.

Just add an xml css so that if a site visitor clicks on the xml page they see a nice pretty view.

I was trying to stop it from displaying at all within a browser, and only be read by news readers etc. However until the feed:// option is standard, not much one can do about it.

Will change it to open in a new window though since it has a blank template, navigating away from the site.

Ok, solved one part of the problem with NewsFeed not working with friendly URLS in a user directory.

Line 139 has the following code


This causes a duplicate "/~user" reference to be created in the URL. ie. "http://domain.com/~user//~user/document.html"

The first bit of code outputs "http://domain.com/~user/"


The second bit outputs "/~user/document.html"


So after lots of trail and error I found the fllowing code fixes line 139



Line 225 creates links for each article


I need to change the last bit "modx->makeUrl($ds[$i][’id’])", but using the same code as above or even changing "id" to "alias" creates a parser error.

Can’t find any documentation to assist so hoping someone can help me ge it to work
