    https://www.packtpub.com/modx-2-0-web-development/book

Written by Antono Solar John, which is the same author as the first book from Packt about MODX which was.. slightly disappointing? (I didn’t get the book myself, but that seemed to be the general perception)

It’s only been released recently, but I’m wondering if anyone has ordered it and what they think. smiley

The "In Detail" text is exactly the same as the one for the old book, so let’s hope that’s still in the works...

It seems to me like they didn’t write up the in detail part yet (or at least: that’s what I hope) as it’s exactly the same as the text for the Evolution book.

Ditto was ported to Revolution to make migration one step easier, but it’s not being developed so shouldn’t be used, and 2.1 could be the release it stops working and people need to switch (but I haven’t looked at the code so this is just guessing).

I think some good books about Revolution will be a major incentive to get more into using Modx - have met quit a few who have asked for a book to read before making a decision on hoping on the wagon...

The shift from Evolution to Revolution has given us a stronger CMS, indeed -but it have made a bit of confusion when convincing new users - some good books could be nice....

Bob Ray and Shawn Wilkerson are both working on a Revolution book. Two big names there so I’m expecting something good :p

This is probably the first Revolution book out there, so am really curious what it’s like (and if it’s better than the Evo book).

I was also contacted a couple of months back by Packt if I wanted to write a book, but I can’t commit to that, nor do I have any writing skills, so had to deny that

Sounds good - even though I’m remember seeing Shawn tweeting about getting a NO from the publisher not long ago...

But I hope they both will succeed in getting a book out....

Didn’t he decide to self publish? tongue

Must admit I’m not really up to date on the scoop, but that’s what I seem to recall... I’m sure both of them will kick in this discussion later today tongue

                  Hopefully Shawn will self-publish...

book-on-demands, e-books, ipad etc - who needs a publisher anyway wink

Could be great if Bob & Shawn (and others?) could come up with a hint about what to expect

If I had the right skills, I reckon I would make more money from running a subscription-based MODx tutorial and support site (with an e-book as initial product) than I would ever do as a developer. I don’t think the John book will be any better, with respect, because he’s a Drupal / Perl expert. I have much higher hopes for Bob and / or others from the forums/core team.

As it is, I look at why ’ismember’ doesn’t work as expected. Why my latest site has load times of over 9s uncached (3s cached - about twice as slow as the manager). Why I can’t freaking decide between using extended fields or extending modUser to capture the screed of info my latest client wants about their users. And I just think.... nah.

I hate days like today. And I’m not too fond of MODx today. I suspect it’s not too fond of me, neither.

If your site has load times of 9s something’s wrong... On my site, the page source is generated in 200ms from cache and 500ms after cache has been cleared (running 3 wayfinder calls and a load of conditional output filters depending on TV values). That’s on a shared server, too.
