This is a module I have been working on.
it is called SkinGraft.
it is a template manager for MODx.
see, you can graft a new skin onto your site.
Install instructions included, as well as a few SkinGraft-compatible templates.
ATM, It does not install extra chunks or TVs so templates that have a bunch of chunks and TVs will not be easily upgraded to SkinGraft packages.
A SkinGraft package is a zip file that extracts to a folder which includes a file with the html, a preview image(400x300), the associated style sheets and images, and "skin.php", a file that the template author fills out with descriptions, titles, and locations of files. unzip one of the included packages to see the structure.
once the module is installed, a user can run the SkinGraft module to edit, rename, set default, etc all existing templates, BUT ALSO, select a SkinGraft package (template.SkinGraft.package.zip) to install. during the installation, you can edit the HTML, name, etc... and set the package to be the new default template for docs, change all docs to use this template, change all docs that use the old template to the new template, or just install it.
PLEASE!!! BACK UP YOUR "assets/templates" FOLDER BEFORE USING THIS! just in case

.
if a template’s folder says "assets/templates//" do not delete this template from within SkinGraft. it will remove your templates folder! yikes... sorry about that... working on this one!
check it out. this is VERY beta, but I am looking for feedback (but mostly looking for help

).
