Dreamhost vs. Site5

Just wanted to UPDATE my current status with Site5 hosting...

I got the 30-day trial and after almost a month, some of my sites transfered succesfully, some aren’t.
Those who were transfered are working great and very fast... I recommend VPS for everyone!!

Conclusion so far:
- If you are starting a fresh website - just GO AHEAD! I don’t see any negative sides from now.. MODx is working flawlessly on VPS

- On other hand... If you need to transfer large amount of websites... I wouldn’t recommend it (if you don’t have the time).
Why?
1. Because the whole proccess on 5-10 sites isn’t over after almost a month... BTW is trial period for testing or for transfering files?
2. some files on some domains aren’t transfered completely (I manually downloaded/uploaded almost 25 picture galleries.. and still searching for some missing files to transfer...)
3. some databases aren’t transfered at all... resulting with « MODx Parse Error » Error: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]

I definitely must give every commendation for their support!
I buzz them almost every day, and the guys have nervs of steel

That’s very interesting, thanks for that update. May I ask how you did your site transfers? I usually don’t have as many of them as you have. Are you doing the import/export with CPanel? (I think that’s what I’d try if I had to do that many, and some new hosts will actually take care of that for you!). Even doing it all manually, I would have thought that it would take less time than a month... what an ordeal!

Estimated time of transfer is normally 1-3 days and the hosting company does all for you.



..but there is always if/else situations... like mine.

I think - as long as you avoid HostColor - you’ll have a better experience with everyone else including Site5 and Dreamhost. HostColor is not a square shooter, they claim they’ve got everything, however they’re doing a lousy job in my book.
HostColor sucks.
