So I finally managed to create my first plugin to share with the MODx community
NivoGallery.
After reading many forum posts about people not being able to understand or how difficult it is to get a nice gallery working in MODx I had to do something about it so I decided to create NivoGallery.
Right now it is pending approval but once it get’s approved anyone will be able to create a pretty slick gallery that is very customizable.
Check out
my website post for some screenshots and a brief explanation on how it works.
I can’t wait to hear the feedback from the community.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Thanks.
Ben,
Good idea, nice job automating a bunch of that stuff! I agree, Nivo is super awesome, and it can pretty easily go into just about anything.
I set up Nivo in a somewhat less automated way using GetResources and documents with TV’s. This allows your slides to link to docs as well, which makes it good for navigation as well as slide display. The same thing could easily be done with Ditto in Evo.
Viva Nivo!
Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave, I still have some improvements to make to NivoGallery but I was so excited and wanted to share it with the MODx Community and get some feedback to know what other improvements it might need.
Plans for the future include using thumbnails, updating the nivo javascript so it automatically centers the next and previous arrows no matter what their size, automatically centering bullet indicators to the gallery and probably changing the way the image captions are applied in order to have greater control with MODx like inserting links etc.
I just can’t wait until it’s approved to start getting some feedback on it
Great idea!
BUT, I can’t get this to work, I’ve made a new album in Gallery that is ’Active’ and ’Prominent’, filled it with images and defined it in the Template Variables of NivoGallery.
When I open the page that has the template applied, all I get it the name of the template in my case the page just says: ’Orman’
TO show you what I’ve set and what doesn’t work.
It just prints the TV’s.
I’ve got the same problem. Could you please explain what is the problem? I guess that’s because Apache configuration, but I’m not sure. I would be very appreciate for the answer, cause the plugin is really awesome and usefull.
Thanks

Make sure the page you are using has nivoGallery as your template you have to modify the nivoGallery template to match yours making sure not to delete anything that it has otherwise the gallery will break.
I think I know what your issue is, go to the files tab then assets and see if you have a templates folder, NivoGallery requires you to have this folder.
So your folder structure should be:
assets/teamplates/nivoSlider
If your directory structure doesn’t look like that this is the issue.
This and other bugs will be corrected with the update next week.
I’m waiting impatiently for the update! Please, let us know when it is available for downloading.
Thank you in advance
