Ok, that’s sort of why I asked but what is released? What code baseline do we use? Have a quick look at this ticket http://svn.modxcms.com/jira/browse/MODX-578.  last comment entries. Whats is the difference between modx-components and WTF, I’m confused here at the mo. Previously in this thread I asked this and the reply was
WTF is the official repository for MODx 3rd Party Components that have been audited by the MODx Team. As soon as the new site is finished, this will also be connected to the new site where you can download packages straight from the website (similar to the current modxcms.com’s resources browser, but far better).

modx-components is a special SVN repository for the authors of those packages and MODx Team developers, primarily to help convert certain, specific packages to Revo-compatible versions. Packages in WTF are built from modx-components, but modx-components changes far more and is therefore unstable. Think of it as the SVN version of WTF packages.

Eventually, upon Revo release and onward, the modx-components packages will be stable in their trunks, with development code being pushed to branches. This, right now, however, is not the case.

Assuming this is modx-components then is the best thing to do to pick a package, say Jot, fix it up then raise a single bug ticket with the changes etc attached?
No - Armand is already working on Jot. smiley

The best thing is to ask either Jason or I (or Garry or Ryan) which component needs work. We can then tell you which need development and testing, and direct you to a proper package and give you steps on how to commit/contribute.

I can tell you right now that these packages are stable (but might have bugs) in modx-components:

Breadcrumbs, Captcha, SPForm, EZFaq, Wayfinder, Ditto, UltimateParent, Star Rating, FirstChildRedirect

These are already being worked on by team members:

    DNA, Jot, ReleaseMe, TplTk

And these need help, testing and work:

    • TinyMCE - Stable mostly, but needs lots of testing and packaging work
    • AjaxSearch - Needs rewriting completely
    • QuickEdit - Has had some work, needs still more and lots of testing
    • DocManager - Obsolete - needs to be converted to a Manager Page via modActions.
    • Ditto - I know I said it was stable, but still needs lots of testing and work in the 2.1.2 branch.

Ideally, the authors of these components would do the work, but we haven’t heard much response from their authors or gotten much cooperation, so our only current option is to inherit the work and do it. If they would like to help, we’d love for them to come back. smiley

Ok thanks splittingred, the WTF/components SVN relationship is clear now.

As for the work needed I don’t mind doing some of this, particularly DocManager as its a module conversion and seeing as I’ve already raised MOD-577 on TinyMCE testing there’s no reason why I can’t look at this bug/carry on testing it.

I’ll contact you off-list for further details.

Anyone seen this before, I’ve got the latest SVN Revo installed on a Centos5 box and for some reason firefox seems to choke when accessing any of the php files in the connectors directory. If for instance I go to the packages or providers pane I get the form but no data, the firefox error console throws this error ’no element found line 1’ with a link to the connector file in question, e.g workspace/packages.php or workspace/providers.php etc. If I open this link I get this
’{"success":false,"message":action_err_ns","total":0,"data":[],"object":[]}’. The rest of the install seems OK, I can create content etc.

Weird, this must be a config error of some kind on this box, but what and where.

If you’re testing acting on a connector file directly, you need to provide it with an ’action’ parameter, eg: ’workspace/packages.php?action=getList’

Then you’ll be able to get some more debug info.

Yes thanks, firebug does show the getList going in the request. If I do this on my other boxes, I get the data back on a blank page, e.g. the providers say in the structure above, bizarrely on this box I don’t, I get the ’You have chosen to open xxx.php which is a php script what should firefox do with this file?’ dialog.
OK, this isn’t stopping me doing anything here I can come back to this later, thanks for the reply, any further thoughts welcome.

It sounds like FF is operating at a different security level on that box for some reason. I think you could set an exception for the site in FF -- Tools | Options | Security.

Just thought I’d share this, I was sloc counting an app earlier but mistakenly ran the tool from my revo install directory, I got the following :-

                SLOC Directory SLOC-by-Language (Sorted)
                61924 core php=61888,pascal=36
                3447 _build php=3447
                2533 setup php=2533
                158 connectors php=158
                0 manager (none)
                0 top_dir (none)

Totals grouped by language (dominant language first):
                php: 68026 (99.95%)
                pascal: 36 (0.05%)

Total Physical Source Lines of Code (SLOC) = 68,062
                Development Effort Estimate, Person-Years (Person-Months) = 16.81 (201.73)
                (Basic COCOMO model, Person-Months = 2.4 * (KSLOC**1.05))
                Schedule Estimate, Years (Months) = 1.57 (18.78)
                (Basic COCOMO model, Months = 2.5 * (person-months**0.38))
Estimated Average Number of Developers (Effort/Schedule) = 10.74
Total Estimated Cost to Develop = $ 2,270,866
                (average salary = $56,286/year, overhead = 2.40).

A cost to develop of $2,270,866 over 1.57 years with 10.74 developers on an average salary of $56,286, wow!

Don’t know about the salary but the rest is definitely on par with a well developed medium range commercial application, this doesn’t include templates, or javascript and its missed the manager directory for some reason so if anything this is a bit low. We only use this for basic line count estimates so don’t know if the rest of the data is right/wrong or middling, pinch of salt please.

                Carry on coding.

Can I apply for a job at MODx for that kind of salary? grin

What is SLOC? I would love to know if any of my work has any value.

SLOC = ’Source Lines Of Code’, still used in many places as an estimate of size/effort/time etc.
