I spoke too soon. The install went smoothly and I can log in via the manager but when I try to do most things, I get

      Error!
      Access Denied

I tried a lot of things but the problem persists.

      I can do:
      reports | schedule
      tools | workspaces
      clear cache

But most other functions give the error. If I do them in the right order, it will kill Apache and it won’t restart.

If I just log in and go to Tools | Configuration. I get the access denied error and just this message in the error log:

      [2007-11-05 15:04:22] (ERROR @ C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\m097\core\model\modx\ui\cfiletree.class.php : 514) PHP warning: preg_replace() [<a href=’function.preg-replace’>function.preg-replace</a>]: Compilation failed: missing ) at offset 7

I don’t know if this is a bug or if I just have a bum installation.

      Xampp on XP
      Apache 2.2.4
      Php 5.2.2
      MySQL 5.0.41

The "Access Denied" error is common on Drupal. I’m not sure if that’s good news or bad. wink

opengeek commited a fix to this problem this morning, so it should work now if you update from SVN. For a quick fix, you need to manually add a row in the table modx_user_attributes with your user_id (should be 1), email, name and role = 1

          Excellent!! grin

Nice to know it wasn’t my fault.

          My modx_user_attributes table was empty.

I think I had to set internalKey to 1 also.

After putting in the new record, I tried to go to tools | config and got the permanent hourglass cursor. It hosed Apache to the point where it wouldn’t restart and I lost my internet connection as well. In fact, I couldn’t even shut down Windows except with the power button.

Once I rebooted and cleared the site cache (should have done that to begin with) everything was fine.

I do have a question about getting the new SVN. I’m relatively new to remote SVN use. Do I need to delete the current version from within SVN, or can I just check out the current SVN to the same working directory? (or what?).

            Jason and all devs

First, congrats on the Packt award. You guys deserved it!

Secondly, thanks soooo much for opening up the 97 svn.

So far the SVN of 0.9.7-alpha is working very well. There are bugs for sure but wow. The manager is fast, the ability to mod the manager from the manager is wicked. I await a documentation cycle so I can really make it work. I know there still work to do before we use this live but wow! Keep up the great work all of you.

Also thanks for looking at Trac so often--TortoiseSVN is my friend. I clued into the fact that you can mod the manager stuff via DOM and that is cool.

              Cheers,

                Hi Guys!

So far the SVN of 0.9.7-alpha is working very well.
Damnit.. my installation stuck at action=install and this point in modinstall.class.php
                  $package = xPDOTransport :: retrieve($this->xpdo, $packageDirectory . 'core.transport.zip', $packageDirectory, $packageState);

The script get out without any message and the browser offer me the index.php as a download after ca. 5 seconds. Its not a problem of the php time_limit, its 120 sec.

the paths are correct and the files(/core/packages/core.transport.zip|core) are existing and writeable/readable. I did it via command line an the files have the owner root.

                PHP Version 5.2.0-8+etch7 as modul.
                svn export from yesterday.

                What information is needed?

                Thanks for any hint.

                ciao, Stefan

                Update: It works!
I did a new fresh try and call the transport.core.php via browser. The further problem was the direcory rights! PHP as Modul... no rights to copy the config.core.php to manager and connectors.... thats it. Is there another direcory in that the file is expect?

                ciao, Stefan

The config.core.php needs to be in every directory that serves as an entry point (or gateway) to a MODx Context. There are three contexts in a basic core installation (or export from SVN), mgr, connectors, and web. These are the locations of those three contexts (unless you configure them and move them to another location) when exported from SVN:

                  • web @ MODX_BASE_PATH/ (the directory you installed/exported into)
                  • mgr @ MODX_BASE_PATH/manager/
                  • connectors @ MODX_BASE_PATH/connectors/
I may make this optional before we release, but it is required for now in order to support configurable locations for any Context or the MODx core. This file basically just allows you to define the location of your core installation, which can located anywhere accessible to the user executing the PHP process, and specify named configurations for use in multi-site configurations with a single, shared core.

In any case, I’ll make sure I add something to the setup to check these permissions before attempting the install.
