I’ve dipped a toe or two into Revo from the very beginning (just ask Jason about the stupid things I did to it that found the obscure corner-case bugs!). What it boils down to is plain old laziness; I’m in my comfort zone with Evo, and at my age that’s becoming more important than exciting new challanges.

Susan, you’re never to old to learn new tricks.... and I’m no spring chicken either grin Only learnt about web designing in last couple of year as a CIW Web Master, and then one of my tutors introduced me to Modx and I’ve never looked back.

I really love working in Revo. Any new sites I do will be in Revo unless there is something specific that needs an Evo addon that doesnt have an equivalent for Revo.

          HI!
I’m new to this community. In fact, this is the first CMS/CMF that I’ve used other than those that I’ve built myself (and ofc Wordpress). I was a designer who saw the light and now am a programmer. I am falling in love with Revo. The only downside I can see is a lack of plugins. But I also see that it’s in its infancy. So it’s up to us to us to build them.
When I completely learn the system I will be a big contributor to the extras repository. (I’m already planning my first plugin, lol) My point is this; It’s open-source, give it some time and it will flourish, give it no attention, and it will die.

            Ken,
Welcome, and very glad to hear that you’ll be contributing. I went backwards, from programmer to more designer-ish. But I’m starting to program again. smiley

I have crossed the rubicon (oh! that sounds way too dramatic!), and will use Revo for sites just for me. I’ve made one "sale" to clients so far, and their reason might be worth mentioning - they assume that the new system will flourish more than the old now, and they would rather have a codebase that isn’t going to drastically change. Not to mention not re-learning the interface.

The other clients may slowly fall towards Revo, especially with those good plugins you’ll be writing. wink

            Cheers, Dave

              Hi,
I’d like to mention another Revo part that is baffling my tech-savvy clients. MODx Resource Browser smiley

In the MODx Resource Browser, [In English: the thing that you use to upload files, make file folders, stuff like that] the Upload window (which you can find once you look around for awhile and come across its tiny icon) is, well, not very forthcoming, let’s say, it’s chiefly blank. You have the funny "Waiting".... OK. smiley And yes, I managed to stare for awhile, and finally found that I had to use the little "Add" button. My clients, who are very experienced web developers, did not find that, and had to ask me for help.

Sorry I keep dinging you guys on usability. smiley Gee, maybe just having bigger icons for those functions will help, if you folks don’t want to label them (yes, I know you can get tiny words if you hover).

              Cheers

In my experience, Revo takes a bit of getting used to and seems complex at first after using Evolution for a bit.

When I started out using Revo, I got all confused / disorientated, now I feel at home with it I love it. Evo is nice too but I can do everything I want, often times faster, in Revolution.

Now I have got used to it, I don’t think I will using Evo very much, except in cases where I the hosting is not Revo-compatible...

                  Hmmm,
I suppose Ive been away for awhile.

I would not say Evolution is dead at all. Editing the front end is still very nice and easy for my friends and clients. And all my Snippets are working on it.

Are all the old snippets compatible with "Revolution"?
Is there a list of incompatible snippets etc?

ie: MaxiGallery..one of the most requested snippets I get..does it work with Revo (dev stopped on this snippet long ago, in the future it main advantage being the front end interface)?
Im tempted to try Revo. But I downloaded it and got confused right off the bat when I did not see an install folder.... LOL!
;) , or text file telling me what to do! LOL

Anyways Evo is not dead. Still very flexible IMO.

Of course Im using Evo for sites that are no more than 20 pages really.
From what I understand Revo would be the way to go for A full out portal or zine...
Anyways, they seem to be different tools to me at this point...
Congrats though on the continued development...

No MaxiGallery at this point, but there is the Gallery snippet and the Gallerific add-on.

You probably know this, but the install folder for Revo is names "setup," do you install with http://yoursite.com/setup
