make change to resource using RTE and modx hangs with "saving" endless loop

Hi,

I’m using revolution pl, but I’ve had this bug before. i didn’t think too much about it as it seemed random and i figured the final release of revo would solve it.

When i make a change to any document that is set to use an RTE, (in this case tinyMCE, fully up-to-date using package management) doesn’t seem to matter what sort of text change, and isn’t limited to the "resource content" area, it happens when i try to change template in some cases, or when editing an RTE tv, when i click on save i get the "saving" overlay but it just goes into an endless loop of the progress box and hangs.

i can solve this sometimes by reloading the page, not changing anything and clicking ’save’, then if i make the change i wanted it works that time. or if that doesn’t work, turning off the "rich text" option in the "Page Settings" tab, saving, and then turning it back on and making my change, it works. this is fine for me but obviously not something i can present to my client as a ’feature’.

I’ve checked the error log but it doesn’t log anything when this happens.

I let it sit there trying to save for 1/2 an hour once to see if it would eventually get out of the loop but that didn’t work, and still no error message.

running MODx Revolution 2.0.0-pl rev7212
php 5.3.3
mysql 5.0.91
server is running CENTOS 5.5 i686

if this is an isolated case I’d be willing to give access to my install via pm if necessary.

addendum: i’ve tried using firebug’s Net tab to analyze what’s happening but firefox/firebug crashes when i attempt this

Have just downloaded a fresh PL version, installed and am having the same issue. Saving from TinyMCE seems to loop endlessly saving over and over again.

update:

this happened 2 or 3 times previously, and only when trying to change a template.

now it happens on every resource when i make a change to any tv or the resource content and try to save.

it might not be a tinyMCE bug in that case, though i’m still not sure.

opening a resource, clicking save, and then making changes and saving, works.

last night i setup a set of 30 tvs as the client wants to have a slideshow area which requires 2 image elements and one text element for each slide, times 10 potential "slides".

so the only change between before when this wasn’t a real issue and now, is that i’ve added these 30 tvs.

the odd thing is it affects resources that don’t have these tvs assigned to them as they use a different template.

Hi folks, all of you need to specify:

- Server OS,
- Server Version
- PHP Version
- MySQL Version (client and server),
- your Browser type and version
- Any opcode caching such as eAccelerator, xCache, winCache, APC, etc
- Any logs in core/cache/logs/error.log
- any other environment data we should know.

We can’t help you without that information.

I guess it’s a javascript error. See attachment. When I click save I get this error.

I guess it has something to do with tinymce...

Try disabling TinyMCE for now.

CENTOS 5.5 i686
Apache 2.2.16
PHP 5.3.3
MySQL 5.0.91 (client version is the same)
Happens on any browser, on both Mac/PC
no caching
this error repeats itself over and over in the log (it’s the only thing in there)

i uninstalled tinyMCE and the problem goes away...

which of course isn’t really a fix but at least it isolates the source of the problem...
