Elements/Components/Add-ons organization

I’m bringing this up one last time, since it’s continuing to be a problem now. *Please* make some suggestions rather than dismissing the idea of buckets or broad categories for types of add ons. No, this is not easy, but it really needs to happen, unless someone can make an argument to the contrary. Otherwise you’re getting what I decide, and I’m just a silly redneck from East Texas.

I would say that unless someone can offer a solution different than yours within 3 days you should just decide.

To restate my personal preference:

Single primary category with a separate user generated tagging system for fine grain searches. If you don’t want to do tagging then I would suggest a primary category with a multi select dropdown of fixed categories. If it doesn’t fit into any categories we can create a simple "New Category" Request that will assign misc pending approval.

This is a great compromise between rigid categories and purely freeform tags (as it is now). Though I’d like to limit the number of tags so we don’t wind up with the mess that’s there now. Is a category "rating & poll" has a sense ?

I’d think that would go more under the Portal category, since it seems to me to be a Portal-ey type of thing (YAPS in my book: Yet Another Portal System). I’m certainly not dead set in this regard though.

TBH, I’d remove "portal" as it is a non-sense marketing buzz-word with no real meaning here. I would put polls and rating components under SEO, Analytics, ... or create another category called Metrics or something similar.

I’ve started moving some things around preliminariy: Search, Templates and Manager Templates & Modifications ... starting to get a sense of order around these here parts!

Anyone want to volunteer to be a moderator and help move these posts around? The more I look at this the more I’m inclined to move the Support stuff to a top-level item so they’re easier to get to. Feedback?

Definetely agree.

And I sure can help this will move faster   Right now I am tied up with a high priority client support ticket but as soon as I can I start moving things !

About the "Portal / YAPS" category, why not label this "Community" ? after all those features are mostly found in community websites...

I don’t know what to call them though I’ve already started making some structural changes to the support section. Will see more soon including a return to sub-forums for specific high-volume projects like Maxigallery and Ajax Search and Wayfinder, etc. Will need to sort through those and move them around a bit I think. New category coming imminently.
