FYI, I’m doing a base round of cleanups to the MODx Light manager theme, along with fixing a bunch of stuff to make it render more consistently across browsers... we were doctype-free, which is not good and makes thing more difficult than they should be.

Okidoke. Looks like content and look & feel are going to be the focus for B3, so lets get this right.

RECENTLY DONE:

1) 404 page changed to use Wayfinder rather than Dropmenu (in a basic substitute-name way, but it works)

2) RSS feed switched to use Ditto rather than Newslisting (in a basic substitute-name way, but it works)

STILL TO BE DONE & DECIDED ON MODX.IT:

1) http://www.modx.it/design.html - can someone tell me if the credits are still corrrect? Also, mightn’t the Style List be better on the template example page?

2) Dropmenu is no longer used - should it now be removed?

3) NewsFeed is no longer used - should it now be removed?

4) PageTrail is no longe used - should it now be removed? (removed 19sep06)

5) http://www.modx.it/blog.html - still uses NewsListing, not Ditto.

6) Templates still use Newslisting to list blog posts also.

7) 404 page still uses FlexSearchForm, not AjaxSearch; also this clashes with the Ajax search on the results page. (Is it possible to have 2 AjaxSearches on one page??)

8) Contact page still uses ContactForm, not eForm.

9) 404 pages still uses 404form, which is a hacked variant of ContactForm. This too should change to eForm.

Anything else?

No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

I’ve finished my first round of cleanups to the light manager theme. I also seriously updated the various frames to get rid of a lot of warnings and speed up performance as a side benefit. There may need to be various tweaks need to the themes now. The Green theme is considerably more polished at this point though. The icons look bad and aliased on the light theme, for example.

On a related topic, should we nuke the original looks-like-eto blue theme and forever break the association now?

Anything resources that are no longer used, and have been replaced by newer code, should be removed. The installer will need to be updated too for this. (setup.info.php off the top of my head... probably wrong) This means items 2, 3, 4 (and contact form, newslisting, and 404Form when done) will go bye-bye.

Mark, how is the Ditto update coming along? Are we shipping 1.0.2 with this or will 1.1 be ready ASAP?

~~On the subject, I have come accross a little problem with Ditto 1.0.2 and 0.9.5 beta2. Still to be confirmed though...~~ (Edit : Sorry, not related to MODx version, my mistake it was a known bug from 1.0.2 : empty folder generates parse error. But that raises a question : should we bundle a Ditto version which has a known bug, not minor at that ?)

What’s the "light manager theme" ? (Sorry, didn’t check SVN lately...)
A lighter variant of the MODx Green ?
Also : what about the modxcms.com like theme ?

Not sure about nuking the looks-like-eto theme (and I think not the only one, uh, Paul wink

?)
It’s colorful and until we have a lighter theme handy, might be best to keep it...

it’s the first release, is not tested and probably not bug free..

See: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,7185.0.html for images. Ryan’s been working hard making MODxLight-beta work in IE etc (which was indeed full of bugs).

I have existing clients on looks-like-eto, and I assume other people do too. My view? If we have multiple manager templates in the installer, that template should be in 0.9.5 (but not the default). If we have only one, then it would be fine to have the updated version as a download. Only once it hasn’t been the default for 1 release, can it go.

I have found some major problems with the code that is there for the AjaxSearch. Somehow a very old version has gotten mixed with a newer one in SVN as well. I will try to get this updated in the installer and on the test site either tonight or tommorow.

Actually that brings me onto a point I need to make - there is a duplication of some snippets in the installer - the default content SQL includes:
404form, ListRelated, ListIndexer, NewsListing, UltimateParent, UserCommentCount, MODxHostMenu, AjaxSearch
and really only 404form and MODxHostMenu should ever have been in there (as the only site-specific snippets).

I assume that’s how the AjaxSearch mix up has happened.
