New logo coming

The logo contest sounds awesome! Inviting the community to be involved in the rebranding process is a great idea Jay.
Is this a go?

If so...a few quick questions:
who would make final decision (perhaps allow community to vote for finalists -with team voting for winner??)
would there be a prize
what criteria would need to be met

MotSmart is right, we have to take a decision and make things happen now.
What is the redesign ETA ?

I think giving the contest a month is right on target : not too short, but long enough to allow designer to work on it... setting up a minisite shouldn’t be to long, but it would have to be taken into account nonetheless.

I like the idea of the brown paper bag thing on the logo while the contest is taking place, which means we can go online before the contest is finished and create a little buzz. I also thing we should roll with this.

That would mean if we do this the new modxcms.com would launch somewhere betweens march 10th and march 17th ? (assuming we let the brown paper bag something like two weeks..)

How about we release 0.9.6.2 at the exact same time the new design is revealed ? If the additionnal time allows to solve the last issues with the AjaxFileManager, 0.9.6.2 could be a great release (any news on this path issues, Jeff ?).

Not a bad idea at all. We could also look at sponsorships as well.

I’m going to try to finish some client work today and tomorrow but I will jot down some ideas.

I really like an April 1st date. People might think it is a joke but we can play on that. Maybe we could do a double announce and unveil a really bad, jagged logo or some stock logo styled like one of those many drug logos with the swooshie swirl and then on April 2nd do the real reveal?

I say we have a picture of a giant panda eating the MODx logo, and below it in text:

"We would like announce MODx has been purchased by Chinese Ministry of Public Security. Prepare wave of new era."

There are so many nasty hoaxes that we could do. For those fans of "Lost" you could create a new station logo for the Dharma Initiative but it might get lost on those international visitors.

The Chinese thing could go on with an announcement that there will now be delays of 24 hours for forum posts because of time required to censor posts. And on an on...

I doubt it would be lost on them, Lost is and internationnal phenomenon it could work, the thing is you’d target Lost fans the others would be... lost
Or else you just put a select on the page saying "what is your favorite TV show ?" and then you get different hoax for different tastes... but that seems like overdoing it.
