New logo coming

Oh, you can have the teams you have. You ’Mericans have all the money to pay the big salaries for the small town Canadians like Sidney Crosby.

I was at the local (actually the only) coffee shop with my Indian boyfriend a few weeks ago and a Canadian guy in the army heard us talking in English and stopped to pass the time of day. So you guys do get around.

Anyone have ideas of possible candidates for prize sponsorships?

Clearly there will be free Commercial Support subscriptions to go along with whatever else we can come up with. I suspect some webhosts will be more than willing to chip in. An i-anything would be cool too (Pod, Phone, Mac...)

I like the idea of free Commercial Support + some prize (i wish we could have something like MODx official reference book or MODx Multimedia (mini)CD/DVD handy to offer as of prize itself!)
As long as we have the hosting companies as of sponsors... How about a free double-way Hawaii airline ticket for two?

MODx 1.0 Logo Contest
With the pending release of 1.0, we want to create a distinctive logo that captures the true spirit of MODx. We are looking for inspiration in creating a more solid identity. Who better to create this icon than MODx users themselves? So, we invite all MODx users to help us in the effort! We hereby announce the MODx 1.0 Logo Contest.


Reward:
MODx commercial services and the winner’s name will also be credited in the footer of the MODxCMS.com website for the duration of the logo’s use.

I’d like to announce a logo contest after revealing the new site ... which believe it or not is under development right now. Porting all 1000+ pages of the current MODx site to 097 (actually automatically converting and checking to make everything still works). Finding a few bugs here and there but making headway. I’d rather not put too many limits on anything but I do have some personal requirements I like to see with logos:

[*] Works well in 1-color applications, like on a T-shirt or metal sign on a building
[*] Works well small, like on a business card
[*] Works well large, like on a trade-show banner

I think we should definitely try to get some cool gear together for the winner, too. A March deadline is a bit aggressive I think, but not too far off... let’s keep the ideas rolling.

We probably should formulate things a bit differently though, we’re nowhere near MODx 1.0 and I am not sure 0.9.7 beta will even make it for the logo contest. We might just say it’s a modxcms.com v2.0 contest.

I think that’s a great incentive to have a credit in the modxcms.com footer for the logo’s design (nice one).

As for the cool gear, how do we finance it : do you have sponsors for the event ? If not, should we start searching for them or do you think the current modxcms.com sponsors will suffice ?

Cool to see development is under way, and porting the new site to 0.9.7 is certainly a nice touch we’ll have to communicate about (maybe document the process a little along the way and blog about it ?).

My opinion is that as Ryan says few limits as I’d like to see as much variety and creativity as possible.

My only thought is that it be scalable and works in 2 color.

I’d actually be fine with multiple submissions from entrants. (Hey we are getting free labour here.)

One other point is that the MODx team should be allowed to modify it for various uses and that the designer holds no ownership other than concept and or design credit.

I’m also with David on this about the sponsorships. We haven’t got any money (have we?) so we need to either approach someone for sponsorships (PACKT for books or Foxycart for a free account or should we venture out to find another sponsor?). I’d like to steer clear of the free commercial support because it means that the team has to shift priorities off MODx or food-on-the table work.

Sorry for poking my nose where it does not belong but i am curious about two things.

1) In reading this post is is not clear if the new logo is finished or if there will be a contest or both. Nevermind, this was answered in another post

2) The logo proposed in the first post (and subsequently used in the wtf) has modx in lowercase, but everyone in all of the replies automatically typed MODx. I like the MODx (and xPDO) with the little x. Is the new logo (corporate identity) going to go with modx or MODx as a model? ->EDIT: no need to answer, I will just wait and see
