Thanks for the access. I do agree with the security concern, however. It is very interesting to see how others develop websites. I think I’m understanding how you did most everything - it’s very clean it seems. It just goes to prove an old saying - "There’s more than one way to skin a cat."

noen_eddy: wow, that is a very noble gesture. I like the idea and will see if I can post a demo site. Not sure about using a client site though, I guess as long as there is no private information it is no big deal (might want to prevent indexing).

I was impressed on how you were able to use a very simple structure for such a large site. Well done. Also, it is cool to see that you were able to build the site with basically the default snippet set (with a few exceptions). Good jog on getting the most out of what is available.

The way you structured the documents is interesting, having the ’includes’ section is cool and helps keep things handy rather in the chunks section. I am sure that this made it easier for the client (in hind site I could have used this in a past project, it took a little effort to explain the chunks).

Thanks for sharing this, it has been very educational and is a great reminder of the flexibility of MODx.

The file folder structure ended up being the marketing director’s call, he’s been moving them around quite a bit, on pinetech.edu now.

The includes thing was kind of a"duh" moment .. in a way it’s convoluted, I mean, includes on a cms? but it works. Simple = better = yes!

I enjoyed developing this site... I think its the best site that my boss and I have made so far. I was the one who made every freaking course page for this site.. I had to make them from a pdf with the courses embarrassed

If anyone has suggestions to improve the search a little I would appreciate it wink

Feel free to post any questions about the site.. but you have guest access so there might not be a lot.

Vi: you said this was another modx edu site.. you know of someone elses site? It would be cool to pass ideas back and forth.

For everyone else I’m opening up our dev site to you guys to dig through and learn from it.

On that note, I have an idea, we should build a list of "open demo sites" so we can all learn from each other. I’m sure I’ve done things that can help others, and I know I’ve seen you guys do things I’d love to get a look at.

Thx for the access. The site has taught me a lot. Now for a n00b question. I’d really appreciate your answer, thx. OK, here goes:

Been trying to get my head round the snippet call [[DynContent?docid=`915`]] that appears in several documents using the pinetech template (in their side_include TV).

First off, is this a DynContent or a GetField snippet call?

Secondly, when I look at the document 915, it is blank, yet the sidebar content is populated with stuff. Is the TV actually pulling something from somewhere or is the content in the sidebar Wayfinder menu content only?

Hope I’ve been clear. Bottom line is, where is the content on the sidebar coming from? Many thx.

              /k

Actually getField could be used now that I think about it, dynConent is just a snippet that pulls the document content from a different page.

that common content "include" is blank, the client has not used it yet, but what we did do for them was used an RSS feed reader to pull in syndicated content from their blogspot blog.

I hope that helps, go ahead and make an edit to document 915 and see what it does, this is no longer an environment we’re working with, so go ahead and play.

GetField and DynContent are similar. If I remember correctly the difference has to do with how the content is parsed (but I could be way off). Basically they do the same thing grin
