Issue #2 is up... sweettt... I still think I would shorten the header image on the homepage.
Here’s the kicker though make it click out to a huge version that would be the monthly wallpaper.
That would keep em’ coming back for damn sure!.....

Yeah I’ve considered shortening the header but it makes cropping images to strange aspect ratio difficult. Also I’m using a single TV to handle that image and on some pages it’s a call to a random function and on others it’s a call to a specific image.

I was thinking about making it an ajax-enabled image rewrite so you can click and go through the images without having to reload the page. Hopefully once Gallery 2 is integrated with MODX I’ll have more control over album specific images.

But thanks for your enthusiasm, Issue 03 should be up in a day or two!

Are they web cam shots are you saying then marschant?
I didn’t even realize that they load randomly, but figured that out the other day hitting refresh a few times to see the different ones, a slideshow fade script to show them all after say a 5-8 second delay... I guess I’m thinking more of a widescreen version of the pictures that would make them 16x9 wide ratio, just suggestions and follow-up, I plan on making a bit of a study of your site, seems to be one of the best application setups I’ve seen so far!
Later on, where are you at by the way, I’ve got a friend who took up surfing just moved to some where in New Zealand.
          Thanks that’s swell... tongue

LOL! Nah my man, they’re shots taken by me and my crew, but I like the slideshow idea, gonna take a look at something like that.

I’m based in Cape Town, South Africa but a friend of mine (Andrew Olivier) has recently moved to Tassie, I’m also considering the option of moving to New Zealand or Tasmania, what you think?

Be my guest with the autopsy, if you want to make any queries, just shoot, got some nifty ideas for things I want to add, but time is scarce and I’m not making a dime of the site (yet).

I wondered what the economic model was to be?
I went to the member area to see if there is a subscription or what... good luck formulating a diabolical, evil and greedy (successful) scheme laugh
How often do you plan to publish new versions.
I’d maybe like to do something similar for the sport of disc golf, but not sure I really could generate content that would have mass appeal, just regional probably.

First thing anyone asks me is "How are you making money off this?" My response is "We’re doing this for the love of it", it would be great to make some cash but those are plans for the future when the audience and exposure has grown. I still can’t get myself to prostitute the easthetics with Google Ads and stuff.

I release a new version every month. I was initially planning to style each issue uniquely but found it to be way to time consuming. I’ve got a standardised layout grid and will make incremental changes to things like the edges and grunge style, wanted people to be able to appreciate the progression when going through back issues.

There are four of us working on content, while I handle all the creative/technical/web management and content preparation - it’s quite a job! I’m hoping to educate the others on how to do it but it’s gonna take time.

Regional appeal is a good place to start, don’t plan to big in the beginning, you want to have room to grow over time, plus it’s a good way to develop a test model.

If you do any photoshop tut’s on how you did the grunge style, be sure and let us know!
It’s sweet in a mono-chromatic way, which could be any duo-tone color scheme huh... wink

That’s my plan of attack is merging a disc golf site w/ a geek site for tutorials and blogging designer paradise sort of site.
And an actual shopping cart of disc golf products. Maybe trying to get permissions to use content from other print publication magazines, and maybe make some affiliate bucks in the process, channeling them subscription sign-on’s... just some ideas.
As you say though, all of that google ads and the like can look tacky.
