Switch to Mac ? How would you rate the benefits ?

No. I’ve used apache on Linux for years, and immediately opened up the httpd.conf file and edited it to move the document root. Then I discovered that the MAMP control panel lets you set the document root from there, no need to edit the conf file manually!

I’m all excited, since I’ve got a friend bringing me in one of the very last of the G4 iBooks hopefully on Monday; I ordered it the day before the new ones were released. Some may say that it’ll be a poor replacement for a 15" Powerbook, but this Powerbook is a 550Mhz with 256Mb RAM and a 20Gb hard drive (not to mention ominous clicking and buzzing noises from the hard drive, a missing caps lock key, a broken hinge, a scuffed-up screen and peeling paint job, the latch won’t close, and a very dead battery). The iBook is 1.42Ghz, 1.5Gb memory and 80Gb hard drive. And I’ve wanted one ever since they first came out (the same friend gave me this old Powerbook instead...thanks, I guess )

I used to do a lot of model ships and cars, customizing the paint jobs when I was a kid (Sea Witch in dark blue and gold, Cutty Sark in shades of green...). I wonder if I can "pimp" this iBook’s plastic case. A nice red-and-gold Chinese dragon twined around the apple would look nice, I think.

I know the feeling... back at my textpattern days Mac users made up for a big share of forum users, so talk about Mac was almost more frequent than stuff about PCs !

I you do make the switch, I think you won’t look back to the PC world again... at least, that’s what I feel. Plus, Mac Intels being able to run Windows...
If prices were equal, there would be more Mac than PCs !

hum. it is possible to run windows on mac even on powerpc. (virtual pc)
and i don’t think the price is too expansive : no virus, no problem of installation. easy to use, easy to configure, etc.
i’ve got a mac, and pc at home. the problems are always on pc…

Another goodie for Mac : Synk is a very very nice backup - Synchronistation utility... I just love it. Cost 20$ for personnal use, 40$ for professionnal use.

well, I put my old VirtualPC with Win2000 on this new iBook, and it’s running just as fast as Windows does on its own machine (with 1500Gb RAM on this baby I gave the virtual machine 512). And it even gets trashed just the same, too. Ran the IE 6 update, and as it always did for me over the years at fairly regular intervals, it destroyed the windows install (I think it corrupts the Explorer part, Windows starts but never displays any desktop). But now it’s just a disk image that I can delete and replace with the old one, no need for a total reinstall!
