Switch to Mac ? How would you rate the benefits ?

Have you noticed any rendering issues, IE6 on virtual pc, we dumped the virtual pc thing a while ago after comparing a couple of projects over at browsercam.com - we got pc’s pretty quickly after that and didn’t wait around to do a complete diagnostic, the differences were enough to make us feel more than just a little bit embarrased. It’s possible our set up was wrong, still, worth checking and a couple of runs over at browsercam on a test account doesn’t cost anything

hmmm... alarming. I haven’t had this setup working properly long enough to see any issues, but I won’t pack up my Windows box until I’m sure, then.

I did not (yet) notice this kind of inconsistencies with Parallels, as far as I am concerned... but I’ll definitely check now !

I was on a PC for 4 years, thinking I’d never move to a mac, but my entire school was mac based, so about 2 years ago I purchased a G5 iMac, 2GB ram, 250GB drive etc. its the most reliable machine I’v ever used.
Unlike the PC (Which I still have for historical purposes, and also as a door stop) I never have to restart it, I use it atleast 6-12 hours a day, and at night I just put it to sleep, I havn’t restarted it for nearly 3 months and its not running any slower.

I do professional HD video editing and compositing, webdesign and development and digital music production. These things just couldn’t be done on a PC because either the software just isn’t available(eg. FinalCut Studio), or the workflow isn’t fast enough to get a job done on time.

as for viruses, Mac OS X is based on unix, and is therefor very hard, if not impossible for it to get virus attacks.

Once you get a Mac, you don’t go back.

We’ve had two iMac’s on constantly for 18 months they weren’t put to sleep - just used the screen saver. My old G4 power mac was on for over 2 years as I’d established a habit of not turning it off and the Mac shop I bought it from said it didn’t need to be turned off. But comparatively I’ve had pc boxes run ’on’ for years and the new note book I got has only been switch off to deal with a nasty ’infection’ when I first got it.

Never had a virus, but we did get stung with the firmware hang up when osx was first released, that put a new power mac out of action for 3 months, the period during which apple refused to confirm or deny such a problem and gave everyone the ’run-around’ on support till they got 10.0.1 or 10.0.2 I think which performed another firmware upgrade to match the later version. It wasn’t possible to ’un’ update the firmware and take the OS back to 9.2.3, a lot of firmware hacking went on at the time by a lot of desperate people including me, but nothing worked - osx wasn’t very friendly when it was first released but they got it right in the end

Switched 8 months ago and never ever touched a pc again And since I bought GarageSale with these nice looking ebay templates, I’ve increased my earnings dramatically.

It’s amazing how fast you get used to the Mac, one you get past the feeling of being a bit lost (especially with special chars on the keyboard... now I have trouble typing on a PC !). I warmly** recommand the MacBookPro 17", a real pleasure to work with...

And yes, I won’t go back to PCs !

** no pun intended, while it’s incredibly silent, you could almost cook an egg on the back of the case ! No way you can work with it on your lap, personnally I use one of those rubber soft casings to insulate... but I might just get one of those Lap desks

Mac is the apple of my live

Mac can do anything windows can but only better, yes its true they are more expensive but are they really ?
How much did you spend on your Car ? Will you buy a $1000 car or a $20,000 car I don’t consider Macs expensive you have to look at the overall investment and life value, Macs last longer and do better not to mention hold their value longer than a PC. I’d buy a used Mac before I’d buy a New PC, need I say more ?

if you were to consider the price of owning a PC, number of years owned, issues, viruses, repairs, etc You could have bought a Mac so if you ask me I think its much more expensive owning a PC than a MAC
