We recently had a real estate client with a slightly different problem that’s pretty common in this industry: the "featured properties" links via an iframe to a central IDX database.

In other words, our client selects the properties he wishes to feature and they appear as a thumbnail summary page, then the user selects an individual thumbnail to view the property details. This was pretty easy to set up, just tucking the iframe call between the header and footer.

The problem came when our client wanted to feature three properties in a separate column on his homepage (and a few other select pages), with a thumbnail photo, address, cost, and a few facts about each property, all formatted in a specific manner.

We couldn’t pull specific info on each property from the IDX database (it was the iframe or nothing) so that meant we had to create a separate column featuring the three properties.

We did this with a simple TV using @DOCUMENT which links to a single resource that contains the column within the text editor. We just added the necessary css to the text editor to make sure the column appears the same as the live page.

There are probably other ways to skin this cat, but this was an easy solution to allow the client to edit his featured properties column in a wysiwyg environment.
