Is MODx Web Development book relevant to Revolution?

So hope to see some down-to-Earth practical application stuff in the ’MODx Revolution Bible’. Not just for the programmers amongst us, right? Wrong?

I hope so. I tried to cover the waterfront. There’s good coverage on using TVs and output modifiers, porting a site, and some tutorial sections on getResources, Wayfinder, etc.

My secret goal in the book, though, is to seduce everyone into becoming a programmer.

I’d suggest you to split them as Administration Guide Ed., and Application Development on MODx Ed.

Don’t shoot all your reader targets at once, you’ll miss a lot of bullets.

That translates into fewer than 600 pages when typeset properly.

Um . . . The version I have is a lot longer than the version you have (and it keeps getting longer as Shaun and Jason keep adding new features). You might want to up that estimate a little.

It’s hard to say. It’s virtually done and is being edited as we speak, but there are still a lot of hoops to jump through before it becomes physical treeware. Also, certain very talented individuals keep adding features and I have to keep rewriting.

Fabulous. How about an advance eBook version (with Draft watermark) in return for a donation? Donors could give you even more feedback to delay a little more. By donation I mean I would pay full price of forthcoming book.

Another great (better?) idea: Why not give away a chapter free now. I would very much like the chapter on porting a site to MODx. That’s an issue for most I would guess. Apologies if same is in that PDF documentation file just made available. I will take a look now.

Why not release it now, even unfinished, as a pdf? I would gladly pay full price, then receive access to future updates. It sounds like a book like this would really benefit by staying in a digital format anyway.. I know when I bought the Packt book it was outpaced by evo updates after just a few months.
