    hi.

    1. if i read the book ’modx wed development,’ will that bring me up to speed on REVolution? or just EVolution?

    http://www.packtpub.com/modx-web-development

    2. i read on the download page that REVolution is scheduled for RC ’Winter 2009’ (which is now).

but then i read in a post made earlier this month:

    http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,42153.msg260146.html#msg260146

that REVO "isn’t stable at this moment"

If REVO isn’t stable, then a RC seems more distant than now. Clarification?

    3. Is Tiny the default text editor for REVO?

Are FCKeditor Textile, Markdown & widg available as options? Are folks actually able to use FCKed? (in practice, not just theory)

I’d gladly install the current beta5 and take it for a test run if I knew the experience wasn’t going to be fraught with frustration. I’m set on REVO and have no desire to tinker with EVO. I’m in no hurry and can wait.

What do those with inside info see as a good point at which to familiarize myself with REVO? If frustration abounds, I may become disenchanted.

Lastly (#4) Is there a board dedicated to REVO?

BTW, I am experiencing a weird quirk with your forum software where the bottom line (or two) are not visible (while typing) without scrolling down. Soon as I begin typing again, the last few lines (again) hide themselves. Irritating.

The current SVN version is RC so that to me means just a few minor changes and checks and it will be relesed

Tiny is the only editor currently instalable for revo via the package manager

The book is definitely for MODx Evolution and there have been many changes to MODx (especially in the security/permissions area) and the MODx Manager for Revolution. There is a Revolution book in the works but it’s hard to say when it will be released (hopefully soon).

Revolution is quite stable (it’s running modxcms.com and several other sites). That said, it still has a few bugs, mostly in the user interface, and AFAIK, doesn’t yet fully support browsers other than Safari and FF.

          Thank-you, kindly.

A few bugs I don’t mind, but I don’t see how they can release an RC with browser sppt that doesn’t include IE.

I’d like to get a jump on things and start exploring REVO at the RC stage. It really sounds b*tchin’ from all the hype I’ve read. I just don’t want lots of pain-n-suffering.

I’ve used Tiny with Movable Type, so that will work for me. I’ve just heard all these cool things about FCK, but have never been able to get it to work.

How is the onsite documentation here?

Read the MODx Web Development book and like BobRay said is for MODx Evolution. However I recommend this book to beginners. I wish I read this book when I started - would have saved me allot of coffee!

Thanks to all the MODx developers for a great product (this is on my behalf)
And from my clients (without them knowing) from learning J..mla...

Are you saying the book applies to REVolution?

Oh, that’s just for the admin interface. No problem. I thought you meant for rendering outputted pages.

This book is for Evolution only.

We wont have RC1 out before Jan 1st, unfortunately. We are currently shooting for sometime early Spring / late February. We’ll see - it all depends on financial contributions, community involvement, and developer contributions.

                  3. Is Tiny the default text editor for REVO?
No. It is the first available as a package.

Are FCKeditor Textile, Markdown & widg available as options? Are folks actually able to use FCKed? (in practice, not just theory)
Not currently, but anyone is free to create packages for them.

Beta5 is fairly stable. You can read the Official Docs here:

                  http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/MODx+Revolution

for more information on it. These docs are not completed, and are always in development, but they provide a good starting point. The forums are also good places to start. We’ll improve the documentation much more post-RC1.

Thx much, Red, especially for the date, which I know folks hate to give.

If beta5 is reasonably stable, I can live with that.

I will familiarize myself with your documentation.

Is there a way I can get latest code direct from SVN?
