Sad news regarding Bluehost. Does Supergreen has SSH in the basic package

I tested their support service before signing up, by asking a real dumb question, and got a quick, helpful response One tip, I went through their signup pages, entering all details/options and then cancelled out - only to be presented with an exit page that gave me the option of signing up at even a cheaper rate - not sure if this is still their policy though!

I ditched media temple (gs) for site5 shared hosting cloud recently.
My site now benchmark 79% faster!!

That was very interesting to read about BlueHost, as I have a prospective customer who seems set on this as a hosting option. Does anyone have any recommendations on hosting in South Africa, as all the providers I have seen there offer very few benefits, tools etc as compared to US based hosts, and at ridiculous prices?

I’ve always thought Site5 was just fast, it’s nice to see a figure to go with my logic The regular shared and VPS options are also really amazing, granted I base my rating of the shared servers on the fact they still haven’t shut down my site despite the ~40GB of MODxpo videos or nearly 2TB of traffic resulting from those videos Or out of around 7k unique visits I’ve seen no speed complaints

I don’t use SSH, so I’m not really interested in that feature and can’t tell you how good it might or might not be if it is offered. Also, as I’m not connected with Supergreen Hosting, I’m not part of their sales team ;-) Their hosting features can be seen at:

As an aside, I think Supergreen Hosting is a UK based part of its US parent Just Host. Just Host appears to offer the same service for a slightly lower monthly fee. However, although good, the various reviews I read about Just Host were slightly less enthusiastic than those for Supergreen Hosting - perhaps, Supergreen Hosting has a smaller customer base per unit resource. So, I opted for the marginally higher cost of Supergreen Hosting - although, the cost of both is really insignificant.

Finally, Supergreen Hosting offers to refund, pro-rota, part of your up-front yearly payment if you cancel at any time. This gives you a penalty free opt out if you are unhappy about anything.

Last time I checked Just Host is Host Clear which is a sister company of Bluehost or something similar.

Correct, this is offered on all packages. If you don’t see it by default ask support and they can turn it on in no time for you. They do a great job with MODx hosting too

Thanks for the information regarding BlueHost. I was thinking of switching to them. Guess I have to keep researching.

Out of curiosity, is there a way one can tell from the html that a browser is seeing that some sort of compression is taking place first? This might explain why I have thought another host to be slow and will like to check before calling them ...

You can check for gzip compression with addons such as yslow. If you have a host in question ask someone might know more about them.
