    ShopX is made up of a bunch of snippets and plugins, you can mix-and-match them pretty much as you please. As far as a catalog goes, you can use anything that will display your products. Just have the cart snippet and the session management plugin installed, and use the form chunk that adds the "add to cart" form to your product displays. And don’t forget the "timestamp" tv, since the cart won’t add anything without it!

      I will likely be using this very soon (within the week) to do a teeth whitening eCommerce site. Where (possibly a specific page in this thread?) would you recommend I begin to ensure all my ducks are in a row regarding proper, working installation of the shopX project?

        This comment is aimed at those who occasionally post here seeking the step-by-step for set-up of ShopX.

        I wanted to suggest an alternative method of setting up a shop while ShopX project is getting up and running.

        We recently implemented a shop using Ditto Snippet to display the products. Using the Ditto syntax [+tvYourVariable+] we displayed each variable (such as price, summary description, thumb image) in the summary page using a Chunk Tpl. We then hooked the cart up with Mals e-Commerce for checkout, and simply passed the variable to the Cart using a form completed with the same variables.

        You can set up a cart this way just by using the Ditto snippet.

        BTW: We did modify the Ditto Snippet to allow output of the product in a table strucuture, by setting a single parameter cols=`3` for a 3 column table. I’ve forwarded a copy of this code to Mark - hopefully for inclusion in the next version of Ditto.

          That’s good advice for folks who want/need to move faster than we’ve been able to provide an updated ShopX package. ShopX actually uses Ditto to create its product catalog as well, so only the links to add products would need to be changed in order to switch to ShopX later. Though I am very close to being able to post an updated script package for comments and testing...

            Great! I’m not a developer myself, but can put development resources in once we get to the next stage. I started down that track in the last site, but we had to move quickly for the client smiley

              Wow, thank you. This all sounds great, and also is as easy as I thought it might be. I figured through TVs/Tpls, you could fully customize all of your product pages, checkout pages, etc.

              I would be happy to test (in a live site) a working version, and would also be able to provide some great feedback and innovation.

              Will keep my eyes on this thread...

                Well, version 2 of this beast will have to move into a pair of dedicated database tables for the products, simply because a product can belong to more than one category, so I’ll need a products table and a product-category table. It will also contain features for product variations, such as size and color, and quantity, so I can work up an inventory control module tied to the checkout/shipping module. And an order status tracking module.

                @sottwell,

                Where can we find a quick, up-to-date list of the current features ShopX has to offer? I’d really like to check it out and see if (at a minimum) they meet our needs! I’m really steering in your direction, and hoping this list exists somewhere...thoughts? smiley

                I’d also be happy to share my success & custom mods with this thread laugh

                  @ricardosanX,

                  I unfortunately haven’t had time to delve into Ditto yet, but I am briefly familiar with what it can accomplish. I believe it to be the end-all solution for Chunk/Snippet/etc interaction/manipulation with complete access to the MODx Document Tree? In other words, mix-and-match any of a document’s data points with other system resources to achieve a desired result...? Intriguing.

                  Do you have any recommendations on where I can best understand how to easily set up the Chunk/Snippet aforementioned interaction for use with ShopX?

                    I can set up a SVN project for this in our current repository. Would be a good idea indeed, as it’s a pretty intense little bit of code with lots of dependencies, and this would force me into cleaning up lots of stuff that’s in need of cleaning up!

                    After 095 ships or the first RC thereof.

                    Ryan is this still on the radar, and if so has it been bumped back until the release of 0951 or 097?

                    Zap, are you any closer to posting that updated package for comments testing?

                    The reason I ask is that I am close to going down the road of implementing ShopX, and don’t want to reinvent the wheel, but would love to contribute anything I do.

                      I hope to post my code by the end of the year. I’m at a stage where it works well for me but there are a number of limitations to address and lots of clumsy coding to clean up. I could probably set up a test install on one of our servers and give interested people access then as well.

                      I’ve also been rethinking my offline processing setup a lot in the last few days. Currently I save the order info into a separate database with a different user/password and I keep all of the scripts that access that database in a password-protected directory with forced SSL. I don’t use MODx at all for reviewing and processing orders because I wanted to be absolutely certain that in the unlikely event that someone hacked MODx they wouldn’t have access to that data. But this now seems unnecessary to be, especially since it doesn’t really work 100% (a hacker inside MODx can run PHP scripts to get the contents of that directory) and the separation of the order database complicates integration of other gateways.

                      Other major bridges still to cross include migrating from a PHP session-based to an independent system (for which it may be best to wait until 0.9.7, which will have session management built-in) and improved product option management and functions (my options don’t affect price or weight yet, for example). Plus I removed all of the user account hooks that are in Ryan’s version, so we’ll have to reattach those in a modular way for people who want them. And those are just the things that come to my mind right away...

                      If you’re up against the clock and you need my code now, PM me and I’ll get it to you in its current state somehow.
