Just as an after-thought to my previous post; and following up on Ryan’s post. I seem to remember a system of ’bounties’ seemed to work in the Textpattern CMS community for getting code out the door that would otherwise just sit on someone’s hard drive after they developed it for a project... As I remember people could post a paid ’bounty’ for a feature to be added if they really required it and others could add to the bounty if they also wanted to advance that same functionality. Someone who then took time out to created the relevant add-on could then claim the bounty on completion...
Well, just a thought.
