All that our company would be interested in would be premium add-on modules and or the ability to request and pay for modifications to future versions of the CMS.
I was inspired to donate $10 by this thread. I looked across the header at the top of the page, no dice. I looked across the bottom, no luck there either. I went to the home page and found near the bottom a button, I press it and I see I need to create an account. It says:
"We at modxcms.com require users wanting to donate, purchase hosting listing space, or advertise to register and login to modxcms.com. Why? Because we want to provide you with detailed information regarding all of your donations and marketing efforts at modxcms.com, and we need an account to tie that to."
I am not convinced I should do this. I’m not asking that you add a paypal button which would be very simple for the donor (I have helped our organization move the last vestiges of our donation system off of their site after one senseless issue too many) but knowing what I do about online donations I find your paragraph pretty confusing. If it’s my email address you’re after, I don’t know of any donation system that won’t report that to you once the transatcion is initiated.
I will donate $15 dollars (a measly amount I know) if someone will add a donation link to the nav bar at the top of the page and tell me why I would have to create a special account at the donate page in order to give you my (measly) donation.
How about writing up some ebooks that someone can download after paying.
How To get started with MODX.
Best Practices with examples.
Mastering Ditto.
Building Powerful and Robust Websites with MODX.
MODx Cookbook.

The reasons the donations are handled that way is because you also get a listing on the donors page. We have to tie that to an account. It’s not preferable, but it’s what we’ve got for the time being. The account is the same account that’s used to post add-ons and interact with our bug tracker as well, and it lets you update your listing as you see fit.
That said, we’ll rethink how we’re handling it and see if we can work it a different way. Thanks for the feedback and offer.
I think we could get a lot more donations (and certainly no fewer) if we had an extra donate button --
Donate Anonymously
One book that I would definitely be interested in:
MODx Site Blueprints
Ready-made plans for 12 different professional MODx sites.
Each plan contributed by a different long time MODx user.
I volunteer to compile, co-ordinate and touch up the English.
@jzigbe If there was premium documentation that required donations, I think
developers would also have you to pay for "premium" code... We would end up with
only a restricted MODx for free.

The books I am suggesting are already available for Drupal.
There are many who do not want to be bothered with searching the Forums for answers.
They want something which is readily available in a book form.
Drupal has a lot of very good freely available tutorials on their site, yet Drupal books like the ones I have suggested are best sellers.
