    hello,

    i meant to ask.

i now have a whole load of replicated prefixes in the database table, modx_, modx1_, modx2_... etc that i had to create each time i did a re-installation in solving this problem. how do i remove the unwanted entries in the database?

    many thanks for your help

Go to the "Download MODx" link at the bottom of the forum and get the latest (1.0.3 at the moment).

When I upgrade across a wide version gap like that, I don’t upload the snippets nor do I check their checkboxes for installation when running the installer. Make sure to backup your entire site, database as well as files, before the upgrade. It’s a good idea to check and clear the manager action log and the system events log (under the Reports menu) first, then log out from the manager and make sure your browser’s cache and cookies are cleared for the domain.

What I would recommend you do in this case is to download the latest and unzip it. Rename the files and folders with a "_new" at the end (index.php_new, assets_new, etc) and upload those to your site, alongside the originals. Then rename your old files and folders with _old, and remove the _new part from the new ones. Copy your config.inc.php file from the old manger/includes folder to the new one (manager/includes/config.inc.php) This way you can recover any files from the old site (such as customized template files), or revert quickly and easily if necessary.

As far as your messy database, you’ll just need to go in with phpMyAdmin or some other client and carefully drop the extra tables. Just keep your original modx_ prefixed tables.

          hello

i have successfully installed the new version of MODX.

however, the edit function for the pages comes up blank. everything else in the system is fine, but when you click on ’edit’ or try to create a new resource, it starts to load but then comes up blank.

however, when you preview the page and use the’quickedit’ option, that is fine and all the functions are there.

what can i do to get the editing function within the main MODX system to work properly?

          many thanks

            hello.

just an additional note, i was having problems with this before, as a result of the critical error. the editing function wasn’t working properly after the reinstallation of the orignal version of MODX on my site. i suspect that there is a file missing somewhere...

Is it possible that you have the Rich Text Editor turned on but no RTE installed?

                hello

what sort of text editor should I install? I had a look at the extras but the Tiny and CKEditors seem only to be for revolution, and i don’t know of the editarea product suitable?

can you tell me which rich text editor i should install, and where i can find installation instructions.

                many thanks

Sorry, I thought you were using Revolution.

You should have an editor already unless you unchecked it as an option when you installed. It you don’t have an editor, you can always do an upgrade install and select it. The upgrade install won’t overwrite any documents you’ve created unless you install the sample site (IOW, don’t install the sample site).
