    hello

i have a critical error on my MODX.

if i edit a document and save the changes, it causes my site to go, and is replaced by the following message:

    « MODx Parse Error »

MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

    PHP error debug
Error: Unknown(d:/hshome/inf0guru/trainingandfitnessblog.com/assets/plugins/qm/qm.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
    Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
    File: d:\hshome\inf0guru\trainingandfitnessblog.com\manager\includes\document.parser.class.inc.php(745) : eval()’d code
    Line: 14

    Parser timing
    MySQL: 0.0519 s (50 Requests)
    PHP: 0.0701 s
    Total: 0.1220 s

my log in page for the MODX is also completely blank.

i am unable to resolve this issue, and also it is rendering me unable to update to the new MODX system. there is a file, or file path or something that is missing causing this problem.

we had a virus attack which this stems from. the virus is now clear but has critically damged the content management system.

can you please help me on how to update to the new MODX, and also what this error is about and what i can do

    many thanks

    richard

It looks like the file: /assets/plugins/qm/qm.inc.php is missing. That’s QuickManager. You could try reinstalling that add-on.

Another, maybe better approach in case other files are missing, would be to upload the same version of MODx (including the install directory) again and do an upgrade install (be sure not to install the sample site).

        hello

thank you for that, very useful.

can you tell me what would happen to all my templates set up on the MODX system? I don’t really know how the re-installing/ updating process works and am wary about losing data.

        thanks

As long as you don’t check the "demo content" box while running the installer in Update mode it won’t bother your existing database content.

            hello

i have uploaded the files for the version that was originally used for my site, but i do not know how to run the restall

the version is: 0961p2, a revolutions version.

i found the following instructions: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Fresh+Installation

and i uploaded the files to ’ftp.mysite.com’.

however, i do not know how i now run the install process in order to do the update?

can you help me with this please.

            many thanks

Whatever you normally enter to go to the manager, do the same thing, but replace "manager" with "install" when you enter it.

This assumes that you’ve uploaded the files including the install directory. Be careful not to install the sample site.

Always back up your site before upgrading.

                hello

i have done the upload of the files successfully now and the install page comes up fine. however, it is unable to connect to the database. i do not think there is a database set up on here, and if there is i don’t know what the details are.

i have attempted to run the install fully, rather than an upgrade install, but again it asks me for database information that i don’t know. it says that if there isn’t a database, then MODX will attempt to create on, but how do i tell it there isn’t one? it won’t let me leave the fields blank, so what do i put in here if there is no database?

                many thanks for your help

The best thing to do is to create an empty database yourself first (via cPanel or the equivalent), with a user who has full rights, then run the install and tell MODx the name of the DB you created and the user’s credentials.

Hello, thank you for your reply again.

You may be able to guess my next question, but how do you set up a blank database?

I don’t know where to begin with this really, is there an instruction guide for the setup?

also, on installation it says that MODX will create a database if there isn’t one. what do i need to put in for it to do this, if this is possible?

                    thanks

                    richard

You can try letting MODx do it. Just pick a name for the database (or leave it as modx) and a username and password for it and follow the prompts during the install.

If that doesn’t work, it’s hard to give specific instructions because it depends on the tools your web host has set up (and their versions).

BTW, the hosting service bluehost.com has an automated install of both MODx Revolution and MODx Evolution using SimpleScripts in their cPanel. You can do a complete install there with a few clicks.

Otherwise, here are the general steps:

Log in to the host’s control panel.

Look for Databases, Database Management, MySQL Databases, or something similar.

There should be a page for creating a new database. Call the DB modx. Look for a way of setting the character set and collation. Use utf-8 and uft8_general_ci for the options.

                      Do it (create the DB).

Make a note of the database name (might not be what you entered). Create a database user with full rights, a username, and a good password. Make a note of the username and password.

Run the modx install using the db name, username, and password from above.
