hello
i have been able to locate the database used for the site. the modx install was able to connect to it ok when doing the upgrade option. however, this did not solve the error i had, as the missing files were obviously not replaced.
i therefore decided to attempt to do a full installation of the MODX system again.when doing this, i entered into the database info the database details, and it connected, but it said the the ’prefix’ already existed (stated as MODX)this i assumed was a prefix used for the current database.
i therefore put the prefix as ’modx1_’ and this then went though and the installation was completed.
however, my site is no longer there. all the files are there, so it seems, but the pages are not and not displaying the site.
it seems therefore that i need to link a new installation with my pre existing database. can i link the modx system to that database now, or do i have to do another reinstalation and try and connect to my previous database at that point?
it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me all this, the database information was ok, it linked to the database, my files are there, but i had to use a different table prefix and now it is not showing.
surely there must be a way to reinstall the modx system onto my site without affecting what is there. it can’t be this difficult surely...
can you please advise what i do now.
thank you
richard

The prefix is automatically added to all table names. The base table name for the site’s content, for example, is site_content. In your database now, you have two tables: modx_site_content and modx1_site_content. Your new installation is using modx1_site_content, which of course doesn’t have the data from the original modx_site_content table.
You should be able to recover your site by editing your manager/includes/config.inc.php file, where it specifies the table prefix to use; it will say modx1_, just change that to modx_ and your original site should now be accessed.
The purpose of having configurable prefixes added to table names is to avoid conflicts in case other applications use the same database and coincidentally use the same table names; or even multiple MODx installations using the same database (which you have inadvertently done).
hello, thank you for your reply
where do i go to change this file?
i cannot see the file under manager/includes, and when i do locate the file, how do i edit it?
is this something i can do in the content management system, or du i have to do it through ftp?
hello
i have found the right file, change it and it now has all my pages back in the manager system! so thank you for your help on that.
however, when you go to the site it still goes to the default ’welcome’ page for the MODX system. it seems that i need to tell the management system to point the homepage to the one for my site, rather than this landing page for MODX.
how do i do this?
many thanks
richard
ok, seems that the problem isn’t solved at all....
the content management system looked fine, was all being displayed properly. i edited something, and now i have the original message come up.
it seems then that the error is being caused due to an error in the database?
the error message is stated in the original post above.
i have re installed the entire MODX programme, and then linked the original database. this error seems to be to do with the MODX system, so i don’t understand why it is back.
any ideas?
hello, i just had a look at the files that were included in the MODX version that i uploaded.
it seems that the missing file is not included in the original set of files for this MODX version. this suggest to me then that it is an add on?
where do i go to get the add on that is missing ~(see original post for missing file)
thank you

hello, i just got this plug in, but in following hte instructions is states: Create plugin with name "Quim" and description "<b>1.0.0</b>alpha Enables QuickManager support"
how do i create a plugin?
also, it states to name the folder "Quim", but the missing file route in the error message is "qm". if i re-install the plugin, will it change this file path, or do i need to do something else to change from "qm" to "Quim""
Depends on the version of MODx. I think in 1.0.3, it’s something like Elements | Manage Elements | Plugins tab | New Plugin.
Just paste in the code and save.
The correct directory should be taken care of by the code, you shouldn’t need to do anything about that.
hello
thank you for your help
the plug in is now installed and the site is working now. updates are saving ok and it’s not bringing the site down. however, the editing tools that used to be there for the document content section, such as font, colour, etc etc, are not there anymore. is this another add on that i need to install to get these functions?
if so, are these add ons as standard for the latest version of MODX, that i now intend to install having corrected the critical error.
many thanks
