        Hey People,

just recognized the new modx site, and i have to say => i don’t like it that much laugh but i think i can get used to it after a while, maybe long while.

the first thing i thought when i saw the site is that it must be created by a blind webdesigner or something, everthing is ultrabig, it’s simply confusing with all the big icons, on that site i just feel like a flee that tries to read a book.

But there’s one big plus, i can use the site when i’m completly drunk laugh

by the way: where can i add my new modx addons?

I’ve to be agree with some part of your post.

Once the first impression is passed (forcefully good regarding the old website), i have to say that the new website look too much "web 2.0" for me.

For me it’s not necessarily the big font, but more the "shiny thing", glossy every where, looks like a 2007 design coupled with actual feature (lightbox, sliders etc...).

It’s not a bad design, it’s just a little too flashy maybe (I’m biased since i like simple minimal design, or little bit grungy but absolutely not a all the shiny one)

At first I was not so sure. After a second look I am still not sure.

The colors (the green and purple) are very bright and everything is very big. All the material is there and your eye can scan through the site and see the structure. However I use a large display and need to try the site using my old 12" Powerbook to compare moving through the screen real estate.

There was recent heavily commented design blog post on how many sites are influenced by Apple’s site design. I see some of that here. The type and the colors are clean and very youthful. But to be honest I find the purple, the green and some of graphics (like the award trophy) creates the impression that the site is for a sports team or something. Its hard to describe. But I try to pretend I do not know what a site is about when I am in the "site evaluation" mode.

The size of everything is a little jarring, almost like an oversize print book at the library. I see more of this though. Is it a trend or is partially that designers are used to using huge LCD screens?

I am sure I am picking nits here. I think this is a job well done. Its very modern and there is not a lot of graphic stuff present just for the sake of graphics being there. I probably need to tour the site some. I am sure it will grow on me more...

One thing I notice though. Just one increase in user web browser text size (I tried Safari) makes the Home graphic jump to the left and partially obscure the MODx logo. Two text size increases will make the Home button obscure the logo almost completely.

I just noticed that the website use jquery as js lib. smiley

As i said before, you have used a lot of glossy everywhere, and reinforced it with rounded corner, which give a web 2.0 look... but from 2007.

The bug typo and the white space is a good thing. Makes what’s important more clear and structured.

The menu is too "little", i was hoping a menu much more like http://freelanceswitch.com/

I don’t like the vibrant purple (make the glossy thing shines even more)

Uhm, i’m lost, where can i upload my new addons with the new site and edit my already uploaded ones like on the old site?

P.S.: I found it laugh but this form is not what i expected!

The layout/structure is great and obviously has had a lot of thought put into it. Well done.

But I am in agreement with others, very web 2.0 - all glossy and sorry to say, a bit cheap looking.

Innovate, do not follow guys, your CMS and ethos are just that - the spanky new site should follow that mindset.

                    Thoughts:

My advice would be to remove all gloss and use some more styling on the H’s, try a serif font with -1px letter spacing to differentiate on all the sans-serif fonts that make up your new brand font. Reduce overall font size on said headings as well.

                    http://modxcms.com/learn/

On the above URL, as an example that can be applied to other sections on the site, comments are:

                    - add some more padding to give the icons and text some room to breathe.

                    - sort the floats out on the sections so that the text does not wrap - it will allow those sections then to be clearer. Just look a little squished at present.

Keep up the great work smiley

I can see why the purple on the homepage will be contentious, it makes it a bit busy - maybe the button could be purple and the background a light grey or dark green. Having said that the purple works well to draw your eye to the section and it makes a confident and bold statement. Generally I really like the ’bigness’ - and it works fine on my iphone screen - but I agree with the comment on adding slightly more white space around elements. I’d make the green headings a couple points smaller and the bold introtext to sections the same size as the bodycopy, but that’s just a personal preference for smaller type.
