I have struggled to find an answer to this problem. I can’t find mention of it in the forums. I am using MODx version 0.9.6.3 rev 4565. Whenever I assign a page to a document group it hides the document preview from the logged in Administrator.

I made a new dummy administrator account and gave it access to the same document group. I get the same result, the administrator can’t preview the page.

This shouldn’t happen, according to the Manager Access Permissions tab "Administrators (users who have been assigned the role with ID 1) always have access to all documents, so they don’t need to be added to any groups."

To make sure it wasn’t my installation I went to OpenSourceCMS ( http://bit.ly/wNJZ9) to see if they had the same results -- yes the same behavior as my environment.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Ian

      Maybe this will help:

Make sure that the User’s role is Administrator
Make sure no chackbox is checked in Access permissions section.

        Hi,

maybe you need to set "Show protected pages" in your configuration tab to to yes

Cipa thanks for your suggestions. I was trying to see the preview from the Default admin account which should be able to see everything. I changed "Use access permissions" from ’yes’ to ’no’ with no change to previews.

Sharkbait thanks also for your suggestion. In Configuration my "Show protected pages" was set to ’no’ I changed it to ’yes’ with no change in my problem. To me this setting seems to be designed to hide documents in the document tree.

          Thanks again for the advise.

I think there was a misunderstanding here; you are saying that your admin user cannot see the preview of a page, not that he can’t see the page at all in the Tree.

Scottwell Yes that is it. I am setting up a site that will have "member’s only pages." Looking at the workflow, I can’t see how I could develop pages after the site is live if I (the administrator) can’t see the output of the newly created pages. The two workarounds would seem to be (a) using a different browser to login as a webuser to see the output or (b) making the page visible to all until it is published. Neither of these seem very appropriate for what is otherwise a very slick framework.

              Thank you for your help.

To be honest, I never use the page preview. I always have the site loaded in another tab in my browser, and refresh it as I edit the document.

Hmmm, strange I’ll try to reproduce that... that would mean you’d need to assign the admin to the web user group allowed to access the page (I am under the assumption you can see and edit the page in the manager but not the preview : right ?) ?

If this is the case then there is a problem there preview should somehow override any restriction for admins...

Davidm and sottwell Thanks for your help.

(I am under the assumption you can see and edit the page in the manager but not the preview : right ?) ? ---- Yes that is correct.

I am finding that if I am logged into MODx manager as the administrator I can’t preview any pages that belong to a document/webuser group. It doesn’t seem to matter how many tabs or new windows I have open. The browser I am using (FF) remembers the manager session I have open and prevents the preview. This is true even with making a new admin account and adding it to the document group.

If there is a better workflow I would be interested in learning it.
