No, You would need to use an older version of 2.2.x for proper functionality. I can't in good faith recommend using mxCalendar any longer, despite being unfinished migxCalendar is likely your best option.

Thanks, I gave up on both mxCalendar and also migxCalendar in favour of using Twitter Bootstrap calendar along with getResources to create the JSON feed it needs to work - works really well and keeps the events for the calendar in the resources document tree nice and neat and tidy - probably the best solution all round!

Believe me, I've touted MODx for a long time, since early EVO days, and I still think it's the best CMS period - with or without a great repository of plugins. I can do just about anything I need with the addons that are available, it's just a matter of time, budget and reinventing the wheel. But over the years, I would have expected more interest in developing high quality 3rd party addons, and it just hasn't materialized. I think it's because developing an extra for MODx is such a daunting task, that adoption has sort of mortified. That and some of the fundamental flaws of the MODx manager, which have been acknowledged but haven't been addressed, seem to have scared off a lot of talent that I otherwise think would love to contribute in a big way. Anyway, it feels a little like the future of MODx is up in the air right now, and that's what makes me nervous. I hope I'm wrong on that account...
Very well put, this should be a seperate thread. But i'm afraid it would die off along side 'Community concerns' (http://forums.modx.com/thread/?thread=90793&page=17). You touch on a big fear of mine. I'm really afraid that MODX is in fact allready dead (or braindead at least) because of a big part of the community has abandoned modx. A lot of abandoned extra's, forum post don't get reactions as much an as quickly as before. (I am however extremely thankful for those that do respond to threads). Issues stunting MODX growth keep laying around.
for example a sucky packagemanager (https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/issues/7341), forums are still a mess in spite of proposed ideas(http://forums.modx.com/thread/92046/this-forum-is-a-mess), forum search is horrible and I don't see any vision or guidance from the MODx core.
I don't mention these because i demand that Modx leadership will fix it. I mention these examples because it baffles me that MMODx leadership does not realize that some problems have a high priority to save the community from dissapating to CMS alternatives.
I think its vital in this respect that the MODx LLC or core team show an acknowledgement of the problems, show a vision in how to deal with this and show in deeds how this problems will be dealt with. I'd be glad to help out where i can.
Don't get me wrong i am extremely grateful for everything MODx has brought me and but i don't think its wise to advise my clients to go with modx anymore because there aren't enough reliable extra's/add-ons to use for any future feature requests. I'm just not a very good MODext/PHP guy to make those addons myself, few are.

It is such a pity, that now that I am learning to work with ModX, basic plugins like a fully (not bèta) calendar plugin isn't even available.

In regards to the other "core" addons, believe it or not most are still supported or have better replacements. You can safely say addons by splittingred are abandon. In some cases the community has picked up support of them or written better replacements. A few quick examples (old/depreciated/abandon > improved/new/maintained):

phpThumbof > pThumb
Wayfinder > pdoMenu (pdoTools)
GoogleSiteMap > pdoSitemap (pdoTools)
getResources > pdoResources (pdoTools)
Breadcrumb > pdoCrumbs (pdoTools)
Articles > Collection
tagLister > Tagger
Codemirror > ACE

Some older extras that are still maintained:
MetaX
Copyright
FormIt
Gallery
Login

You can also find a more complete list of extras known to work with 2.3.x here: https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/issues/11630#issue-37173621

It's worth noting there are also some premium extra providers such as modmore (https://www.modmore.com/), extras.io (https://extras.io/), and SimpleCart (https://www.modxsimplecart.com/) among others.

If you are evaluating platforms based on the number of plugins alone then MODX will surely lose, however if you look at the quality of the extras, and the level of functionality in one extra MODX will likely win. You could build an entire website using just pdoTools and FormIt, complete with a basic news listing for example. You don't need 7-8 different extras to accomplish the same goal (and yes pdoTools is more of a collection than one extra, but that's beside the point).

Anyways, just because an extra hasn't been updated in a long time doesn't mean it's not still functional or supported.

You might try looking at GCCalendar2 (https://github.com/matdave/GCCalendar2), which as far as I know is actively developed. I would consider mxCalendar an abandon project at this time.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there is no documentation and hardly anything comes up about it with a google search. I don’t want to tie my client down to such an unknown quantity, so I've suggested either building a simple events calendar from scratch using Collections, or using a 3rd party embeddable like tockify.com.

P.S. I'm starting to consider almost all MODx addons aside from the core addons (Wayfinder, getResources, Collections, etc.) as abandoned, which really sucks. meanwhile the worst "CMS" ever, Wordpress, continually gets great plugins added every day.

The biggest issue with mxCalendar was that when you add/edit a calendar, a javascript error of "tinyMCE is not defined" happens, causing the problems sottwell mentioned. There are also some problems with the input layouts among other things. With a little googling, I came up with this solution.

• Create a new Plugin, name it something like "mxCalendar_fixes"
• Choose the system event "OnBeforeManagerPageInit"
• Copy and paste this code and save:

$modx->regClientStartupHTMLBlock('');

Explanation: the script adds a global "tinyMCE" variable to correct the javascript error. The css .x-form-field-wrap{float:left} fixes some form layout issues, while the final bit of css simply hides Images, Videos and Form tab which I am not using. Hope this helps.

Also, does anyone know if this addon is actively supported anymore or if I should be looking into something else? I'm getting nervous that the entire MODx project is sort of losing momentum as there just aren't that many people actively developing/maintaining good addons anymore. Thx

EDIT: After messing around with this for a while, I've decided to drop it. Just too unstable and doesn't seem like it's actively maintained anymore. Shame - back to the drawing board.
