@sottwell: thanx for your response, Vanilla looks very good, however the organisation that i will build the site for hasn't got 600 $/year for a forum. As far as i can see this is the lightest price plan... :-(
Conclusion: I am looking for a free forum-software to integrate in Revo.

@sottwell I remember trying to integrate with MODx and it was hell... the proxyConnect SSO plugin didn't work- however you have linked to a different SSO plugin.
I also remember you writing a tutorial - can that still be used as a base?
Definitely hanging out for Discuss....

No, the tutorial I wrote was for the old method, which was fiddly to get working. Which is probably why they came up with the new method.

@sotwell: sorry for my ignorance about Vanilla, at my last post I had only a quick glance about the forums. There I didn't see the "free" option, but after reading on i realised this is probably my best option for now. However, in your article you use the ProxyConnect plugin. They now advise to use jsConnect; which needs a JSON-output to work.
Do you (or anybody else) have any experience with that?
@modx: Can you give an estimate on the release/public beta for Discuss? It would be a shame to invest time in integrate vanilla while the next day discuss would be released....
Will start fiddling with Modx, Vanilla & jsConnect for now....

Nope. As far as i can tell, because of the overwhelming response ;-), its not on the Modx priority list.

@mintnl: Btw, have you had any success with Vanilla?
I could use a hint how to make a snippet for their js-connect plugin ))

Not yet, have been putting the forum bit off until the end of the development of the site. But when i've done it i will try to put some instructions here.

I would really like to include discuss in my site. I usually use SMF forum without any particular integration (since I usually don't need users to "login" on the main site), but I would really like to integrate a simple "forum" like this one in my normal site template using the powerful modx templating method.
Hope this project never stops!
