I would like the forum to be as lightweight as possible and have a very strong focus on templating and flexibility.

    Amen to this.

If you make it so that it can either be integrated as an adjunct to articles like threaded commenting, or like a more traditional forum, that would get my vote. RSS, for sure. And maybe some sort of ping system for updates? I know that sounds more bloggy, but I’m thinking this can be used both directions. And try to leave the frontend templating to us appearance obsessed types, which I’m sure you will, since ModX has been that way from the beginning. smiley

Personally though I know most people are throwing out a total wish list I think that fine line between having a good amount of functionality and staying lightweight and fast loading as possible is probably where the focus should be. A hard line to walk, I think. But folks who want more will be able to add it, since that’s what ModX is all about. Modularity would be a good thing. A "basic package" and then additional stuff as add-ons. MaxiGallery did this in a smaller way with the actual gallery, and then a second snippet to add thumbs to the sidebar throughout a site.

Absolutely! That is the beauty of MODx. Modularity and the ability to customize anything you like.

Yea, I agree to this too.. altough MaxiGallerySolo is now deprecated and it’s features are included in MaxiGallery v0.5 RC1itself, because I would have had to keep updating both snippets simultaneously and do templating to both (too much work and similar code in both).. But still, I agree that modularity is the right way to go. Like Ditto does with Reflect.

Geez, I can’t keep UP with you guys! Which is, I think, a good thing overall. wink

How about a timeline similar to this:

I wish that user profiling was built in. It would be much easier to build community based sites.
              • Yes, and a forum, and ecommerce, and mailing lists, and... hmmm. Then it wouldn’t be a fairly light, flexible content management framework any more.

Personally, I would like the see the default user management reduced to a simple manger login, and all the rest to be optional modules/plugins. Then it would be much easier to modify or outright replace as desired, and not have it around at all if you’re developing a site that doesn’t need it.

I totally agree with Susan! A customizable "Basic Manager" you can replace the current Manager in MODx with for when you deploy the site would be great. Making sure nobody accidently messes something up...
                    • g5604, I wasn’t referring to the "weblogin" snippet and friends, I was referring to the entire user/document management system, user groups, document groups, roles, all that... half the time they aren’t used or needed. Of course, the other half they are, but it would be a lot easier to customize them if they were separate modules and plugins instead of part of the core system.
