Just documents or any of the resources (snippets etc..)?

Currently just Resources (documents). Elements (snippets/chunks, etc) no - but planned in a later version.

wouldn’t it be much more logical to have it the other way around?

      Logical would be both. laugh

Revamping elements to allow for Static Elements is much more difficult coding-wise than just stated, and so we decided to postpone it until a future release so as not to delay Revolution any longer. If you’d like the feature, feel free to contribute to the project. smiley

Once Revolution 2.0 is released, the next step will be basically merging Elements with Resources in that what used to be stored on a Resource (aka Document) as content and metadata (e.g. pagetitle, introtext, etc.) will become Elements of content themselves. This will also be the point at which all content becomes easy to version and localize as an isolated entity, thus you can keep multiple localizations as well as version each localization. This design was part of the prototype I created almost two years ago, but in order to take the MODx community from point A to point B, we decided to make the initial Revolution release be more of a stepping stone to adoption. Once we get everyone on the new platform and away from the habits of direct SQL development in components, we can more easily maintain compatibility in the new object-oriented API when we make the major structure changes required of point B.

Does someone here know "Aptana"? I am using it just a few days and I already like it (planning to kick out dreamweaver tongue)

Or does someone else know a better IDE for developing html / css / js / php code?
            with regards,

Aptana is a special build of Eclipse and it is pretty nice. Some of the team use Eclipse. I’m still weighing my options between Aptana and Eclipse with PHPEclipse or PDT.

I’m using Aptana too, and I like it very much. Would be cool, if there were a plugin for it, so you can have mysql-connection directly to the chunks, snippets, documents etc. in the database via a tree-view, like in the new Revolution-manager.
Sometimes I use heidisql for this, but then, of course, you don’t have syntax-highlithing etc.

I think it is a good idea to post our experience with the IDE’s so that it is easier to decide if we have choosen the right IDE for our needs smiley

My experience with IDEs is limited. I still primarily use a text editor. I will be moving (slowly) to developing with and IDE. I like the idea of Aptana but Eclipse seems cleaner and easier to extend. I don’t need a built in server but Aptana is designed to be used by web developers. I like that.

RE: DB management: Since Apatana is built on Eclipse you should be able to install QuantumDB for it. It works like most table editors should.

                  Hope this helps.

These two recent posts have some interesting discussion on IDEs

I am downloading Aptana to check it out, not a big fan of all-in-one IDEs but maybe I need to catch up with the times?

I recently formatted my PC an decided to try out Aptana whilst in the process of installing everything again. Previously I used Eclipse with PHPEclipse and various other plugins, but decided to try out Aptana, as so many have liked it, and I thought that it would already have most of the features I’m used to have built-in into one easy-to-install package.

But after using it for a while, I have decided to switch back to PHPEclipse. I don’t need all the bells and whistles that Aptana has (like the "scripts" and "snippets" feature, JavaScript debugging what I can already do in FireBug, all the "forced" Jaxer stuff, etc, etc). I also liked the PHP editor of PHPEclipse better. There are lot’s of small things that I didn’t even notice using in PHPEclipse frequently until I didn’t have them anymore, like putting the cursor over a variable and have it color all the references to it automatically etc... Maybe that can be enabled in Aptana too, but there are many more things that just didn’t seem to be in Aptana.

So next I’m going to try out Eclipse with PDT and if that isn’t good enough, it’s back to PHPEclipse for me. The js editor in Aptana is nice though, have to say that. You can’t have it all in a single package.. but I’d rather built my eclipse from multiple plug-ins then what I really use than have lot’s of features built in to clutter the UI that I don’t ever use.

But the point of all this is that I use Eclipse too smiley
