Hi Guys,
I'm really new to this, I just installed MODx through Cpanel using Softaculous because I have been given a website that looks to have been designed in MODx. That's what the index.php code is telling me anyway. I have no idea how to get the site up. I thought the MODx install would allow it to work as it would have the backend info but nothing. All I get is an error page from the website.
Can anyone help me get the website up and running? I have all the files needed for the website in public_html but nothing works. I just need to know do I link the site somehow so it can use MODx files it needs or do I need MODx to maintain the site?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Hi tkes.com,
Welcome to MODX! I haven't dealt with Softaculous myself, but I know people have had issues with this, which I think has to do with the way the files are put onto the server.
What is the error page you're getting from the website?
Regards,
Tom
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@****.com to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.4.10 (Unix) OpenSSL/1.0.1e-fips mod_bwlimited/1.4 Server at www.****.com Port 80
I'm unsure what is going on. I copied the website from one hosting provider to my server so just the public_html folder as I always do but this error keeps popping up. So I installed MODx but it seems to be in a world of it's own!
If it's a 500 Internal Server Error issue, then there is usually something written in a log file that helps provide more details.
Are you able to log into the manager?
As well, you may wish to first start installing a fresh copy of MODX and see if it works before you add in your own site content. That way you can tell if the issue is with the MODX install or some change made to accommodate your site.
Regards,
Tom
I don't know if this helps but the modx folder is located inside the public_html folder. I'm unsure if that's the right location for it.
I can log in fine to MODx via www.domain.com/modx/manager.

I keep starting to respond but I'm not too good at typing fast enough for your posts...
It sounds like something in your PHP files is a little out of date... The old server you used must have used an older version of PHP and now it is a newer version of PHP which doesn't allow call time pass reference.
If my memory serves me correctly, this is when you call a function (not define it) as something like this:
doSomething(&arg1);
This used to be allowed but no longer is: you have to remove the & before arg1. In your function definition, you can still have function doSomething(&arg1)
I had this issue too about a year ago if I remember correctly.

Tom
