Ok, so now, I went to edit a page on the website which is using WordPress.
    I can't find the wp-config.php file.
An Internet search says wp-config.php should be /public_html/subdomainname/wp-config.php, but my files don't have this.
    My files have /public/www/...

    The pages shows the error:
    Error establishing a database connection.
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at n7-mysql5-3.domain.com. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

        Hello Frogabog,
yes, thank you for the reminder, however I am aware WordPress is not MODX.
However, I posted here because after the MODX upgrade, MODX doesn't work.
I have since fixed the database so this can now be closed.

I think the main problem of all this was the unclear instructions on how to upgrade MODX.
I understand the preferred upgrade process is written, however as a MODX noob, it took me a long time to realise the Webhost's Control Panel, which is not there or is not clear to find, might have hindered the fix.
I am used to cPanel, but that is not there and I have emailed the Webhost for clarification there.

Thanks again everyone for their help! smiley

FYI, I would not use a host that doesn't offer cPanel. There are so many low-cost hosting options that have a full cPanel built-in that it's just not necessary.

            Thanks BobRay,
still waiting on a reply from the Webhost.
Another problem I just found after the MODX upgrade is:
            domain.com/directory/admin/ gives error:
[DB AUTH ERROR] Could not connect to database, please check your config.ini.

I have FTPed to /public/www/directory/admin and find no file config.ini?
I think I need to edit a password, but cannot find the file?

The default modx config file with the DB credentials is core/config/config.inc.php

Thank you, yes, someone else on this forum thread helped with that location.
The website seems to have another database, but I can't find it in MODX or the Webhost's database?
Actually, there's 2 other page links on the home page I can't find in MODX > Dashboard aswell.

I thought they could be in WordPress as someone has setup 2 pages in WordPress, but that's another problem I'm working on.

Sorry, the wp post threw me for a loop. It appeared that you were trying to find wp paths within MODX, which you wouldn't ever find.

The two links on the home page, when you open the home page in MODX, are those links showing in the content area? If not, can you tell where they are coming from? They could be directly in the content, the template, or even from a chunk or tv. If you can find them, can you post the code?

In many cases (such as inserted with RTE), a link to a resource (page) in MODX will look like this (where [[~12]] is the ID of the resource being linked to):
                  <a href="[[~12]]">Link Text</a>

Although if the links are coming from say a TV, the [[~id]] part would use the MODX tag for [[*tvName]] or even simply be [[*tvName]] only as in the case of a TV set to the image type.

If your links are coming from absolute urls, often the path of the url will help you locate the page as it should resemble the structure of the document tree in the Resources tab. Find the parent, the child should exist within it.

Which website has another database? The MODX site or the WP site? MODX uses one single database, however you could have custom tables. How have you determined that another database exists?

Try the search in the MODX manager for your missing resources.

                    Thanks for the information.
I have learned now that the website is pulling up some type of older version after the upgrade to MODX 2.3.3-pl.
I need to clear my head with the mess.
I don't know why it's asking for a page which refers to another database, but some links refer to an old website version too.
                    Not sure what's happened?

How do you know the links are referring to another version of MODX, and another database? Links don't typically call up a database or a MODX "version" in their paths. In fact, MODX version or database name should never be in a link path, that's not safe.

Can you post an example of these links? It's really difficult to know what is happening without exact examples of the code that generates your front end pages with the odd links.

Did you happen to use the SDK version to update with? I don't know for sure if that would cause problems, but it's for MODX development, and right now you're developing a site in MODX, not developing for MODX. If you used the SDK, start all over from scratch and use the traditional version of MODX, follow the steps in the documentation and as outlined in this thread, and refrain from using FTP to move files unpacked locally to your document root.

Really can't stress enough that FTP can, and will in most cases miss or corrupt your MODX files. The problems associated with this are too numerous to qualify (let's just call them "weird"), and very well could be your issue with the funky links.
